Where do I start?
Firstly I've lost me glasses so forgive me if I'm even worse at typing!
We got through immigration and met my mum who burst into tears on seeing us. She looks frail. She is being treated like royalty here and wants for nothing. I had 7 relatives greet me at the airport including the husband of the cousin trying to steal my mums land . So I wasn't entirely sure if my mum had completely lost the plot.
Eventually after several detours, cups of tea, cake, more tea we made it to her house which she hasn't lived in for months. I got everything working again and we bedded down.
I slept really badly as I was worried about how to handle my cousin and it dawned on me that George would not be able to re enter uk on his Bajan passport. On top of that I had to share a bed with George. Out of the two of them he is normally the safer bet but he left me with about a napkin size piece of sheet.
We were woken by Buddhist chanting at 5 am. Trust me that is not nearly as dreamy as it sounds! It went on for a whole hour!! By this time I had decided I was going to Colombo to sort George's passport out. We then spent the entire day doing this!!
My super woman powers didn't stop there. I met with my cousin who turns out waited for my sick old grieving mum to have a weak moment to sign her land away. She had also taken her jewellery and some money. I spoke my very best Sri Lankan ( but I think my body language gave it away) that she was to give it all back as otherwise I would get the police involved on Saturday. Funnily enough she brought the Jewellery round! Tried to negotiate giving back my mums land in exchange for mine at which point I told them they had stolen from us and they needed to leave. ( I said a few more things .... George had to hold me back!)
All rather shocking. But for the first time ever... My mum let me be the adult and I think she was proud of me!! I was actually proud of myself as I held my father's legacy together.
