Got up early to make some phone calls home to let family know what we are doing. And read more news about the floods getting worse. It's not affecting where we are - it's a few hours drive to where the worst of it is.
We didn't do a great deal today, just a few jobs to get done. We're enjoying not rushing around doing all kinds though. It's really good because we're staying somewhere nice so we're happy to just relax.
Lovely tea. Chicken on skewers, salad and mashed potato with garlic and herbs - absolutely lovely. We've got a few meal ideas to take home. We might not leave here with all these nice meals being made.
Things just got worse and worse through the day with the flooding and now Brisbane is on high alert. We've heard from friends that the supermarket shelves are bare and there's roads cut off in the city centre. People are being evacuated too. Fortunately for us, Mel and Paul were more than happy to let us stay another night at theirs as we were planning to go to Brisbane the day before our flight and stay in a hostel for one night. Our flight isn't until 5.30pm so we have plenty of time to get to the airport and it's only an hour and a half away on the train.
Spent more time on the stupid computer again tonight booking the first leg of our hop-on hop-off bus with Stray. Also had to sort out accommodation for Auckland which is soooo time consuming. Then had to ring STA Travel to sort out our Adventure Tours trip from Darwin to Melbourne. We were trying to get it changed so that we could leave it open dated and then ring up to rebook it if we decide to come back to Oz. But if we then cancelled at a later date, we'd get charged 25% or more depending on how much notice we give. In the end we just cancelled it and paid a £75 fee. The guy at STA was absolutely useless though - I knew more about his job than he did.
Getting really bored of sorting stuff out and being on the computer all the time - feels like I'm at work!
We've 100% made the right decision though. It's a complete disaster zone. Fortunately the airport is still open but all around it, roads are getting closed and the flooding is just getting worse. Can't believe how bad it is. Glad we made the decision a few days ago though because we know people are trying to get their flights changed now and are struggling to get flights!
