So after two months of hard work we finally left Yulara/ the Ayers rock resort. Working for Sounds of SIlence was pretty cool as I got to watch the sunset and see the milky way every night. It got pretty cold though and tourists tend to be pretty annoying. People would hear my name and presume I was Irish and then were always really dissapointed when I said I was English. Not exactly my fault eh dad! Met some cool people and enjoyed having a cup of tea (or glass of milk in my case) and a gossip with Jodie and Renee in our little kitchen. Learned a bit more about aboriginee culture or abo's as they are affectionately called around here.
We picked up a random hippie called Amber from Devon and she's coming with us for a bit. She's teaching me to hula hoop and given me her hoop which is way cooler than it sounds. She's really good at it, I'm a bit s*** but i'm sure I'll get better...probably. Anyway, so the three of us set off to kings canyon and were confronted by some really bloody steep steps to get up to the top of it. Amber cleverly wore flipflops for this 9km hike but what can i say, she is from Devon! We got in trouble with the tour guide because we took too long trying to get good photos and kept getting left behind. The views were amazing and we got to walk all the way around the canyon. From here we went to Alice Springs where we spent the night. It's a bit of a dump to be honest so we picked up our relocation van which was a 6birth luxury thing with 3 double beds, toilet, shower and kitchen. We stopped at hungry Jacks (ozzie burger king) where i went to the toilet and forgot my wallet. Realised 10 minutes down the road, went back and some one had nicked 50 dollars out of it! Pikeys! Anyway, they left all the cards and stuff so I guess I should be grateful.
On the road, our first stop was devils Marbles where the sun was setting and it looked pretty cool. We didn't pay to park anywhere because we're cheapskates (something else i inherited off Dad....according to mum anyway) We stopped at a thermal pool in the middle of the rainforest which was pretty crazy. There was a sign that said there was only freshwater crocodiles and they won't hurt you. I'm not sure what they're basing this on, but i'm pretty sure it's not true. Didnt see any though so we went for a dip anyway.
Last stop before darwin was the jumping crocodile cruise which was awesome! Now contrary to what my Mum thought, this isn't when you go out on a boat and then try and jump on the crocodiles backs. It's when you dangle meat off the side of the boat and they jump out to eat it. It was a really small boat with only 5 of us doing the tour and the crocs were within about a metre away from us. The biggest croc was 4 metres I think and he was pretty scary. It was pretty mental.
Anyway this was the last stop before arriving in Darwin!
