It took three days in total to get from Alice Springs to Darwin. After the cold nights in the desert, Darwin was really hot. It was nice to be in the sun again.
We safely navigated the enormous motorhome into Darwin CBD. It was stressful, mostly because we didn't have anywhere to stay. With Amber frantically checking Hostelworld reviews on her iPhone we managed to find somewhere. It was until we pulled up outside however that Siobhan told me it was a YWCA! Being the only guy in a hostel full of women would normally be any mans dream, but christian women are freaky, and not in a good way. After a few sinister glares we had checked in and set about returning the van to the depot.
We found the depot, but the woman inspecting the vehicle didn't believe us that the porta-loo was already full when we found it... Not sure why. We managed to convince her to empty it herself, got our deposit back and then got a taxi back into town.
That night we went for a meal. We went to a nice steakhouse, but they had run out of steak so we had burgers and a few beers.
The next morning we checked out of the YWCA and checked into the YHA down the road. We then went down to the sea. There isn't really a beach in Darwin, so this is the closest you can get to something like it. You can't go in the water because box jellyfish will kill you, so Siobhan and Amber hula'd for the local Aboriginees and then we went and sat on a grassy hill and fell asleep. Later we went for a walk around town, which is really small, and then took a walk down to the Mindill Beach Night Markets. Here they sell typical hippie stuff and they have circus street performers juggling fire etc. There was a girl who was really good at hula there, and after plucking up some courage, Siobhan and Amber went and hula'd with her. We spent a fortune on beads and churros and went home.
The next day we lounged in the sun a bit before Siobhan and I went down to the local art gallery. There isn't a lot to do in Darwin so we decided to make this our last day here. We'd booked flights to Cairns for 6am the next morning, and thought rather than pay for half a night a hostel we would sleep in the airport. So, after another lazy day in Darwin, and another meal out, we headed to the airport. We arrived 12 hours early, so Siobhan and Amber did some hula to tire themselves out. It must have worked because they were snoring by midnight, whilst I stayed awake to watch our stuff.
Darwin is a cool little place. Very tropical and hot. I spent most of it watching hula hooping, but there isn't too much else to see. Just a cool place after months in the desert. Heading to Cairns next. Hope the weather holds out.

Sydnee My spies told me they saw you sleeping at Darwin airport! (actually it was just Elisha). Hope things are still going well, can't believe its only been two weeks since you left as it seems so much longer. Keep hulaing. Sydnee
