We woke with stiff necks and feeling a little grubby. There was a really old couple in front with a baby. The baby had been brilliant and hardly cried the whole journey but you can't stop nature. The lady must have been changing the baby on her knee. It stunk! At about 9am the bus stopped for us to get a wash and buy some food. I'd eat leftover pasta when I'd woke so I just got a yogurt and Lee still wasn't feeling hungry so he just got a coffee. First I had to go the toilet, wash my face and brush my teeth!
After half an hour we were back on the bus. At 1pm the bus stopped again for a half hour break. We didn't bother getting off this time. We were only an hour away from Florionopolis. As we were sat in our seats. Lee was playing with his phone I was having a read, a lady, who we hadn't spoken to the whole journey, wished us all the best on our travels as she got off. We thanked her and said goodbye as she left. 2 minutes later she got back on the bus and asked for our email addresses. I let Lee give her his. She said she had been to England then said something about the bible and emailing the word. Next minute she pulled out her camera and asked for a picture. She passed us her camera so Lee took it and went to take a picture of. We thought maybe she was asking us to take a picture for her. She said no picture then pointed our way. We thought it bizarre that she'd given the camera to us to take a picture but still lee turned the camera around and took one of me n him. The woman made a gesture to say she just wanted a pic of me and her. Then the next thing she plonked herself next to me. Lee took the picture, I looked awkward (because it was pigging awkward) and she got off the bus.
I'd been hugging my bag and my kindle incase she'd been a secret thief. They were still there so I guess she was being serious and really wanted a picture.
An hour later we arrived at the bus terminal and headed through the main doors. A man who was trying to encourage people to stay at his hostel was at the entrance as we walked through the terminal. He could speak English and Spanish so was kind enough to point me in the direction of the toilet. Me and Lee decided a taxi was the easiest option so after my bathroom visit we headed to the taxi rank. 50 Reias they wanted the bus is 2.90 Reias each. We went back in the terminal to look for the public bus area and my friend shouted over to see if we were ok. Lee tried to usher us away thinking he was trying to sell something but turns out he was just being nice. I asked him where the buses were and he pointed us in the right direction and wished us well. No strings attached.
It was really easy getting the bus. The hostel had told us what buses to get so we headed for platform B, paid to get through the turnstile and jumped on the 320 bus. The conductor then shouted out the bus terminal where we needed to get off so we did and jumped on the 360 until the end of the line. About and hour later we were walking across the blue bridge and up the hill to our hostel. It looks out onto a private beach. It was a moody day with dark clouds overcast bust we could still see the white sand, blue sea and wooden fisherman's boat parked on the sand. It smelt so crisp and fresh too. We buzzed reception and were welcomed into the hostel, Barra beach Club. We put our bags in the room and sat down looking out over the sea.
We got a wash and headed into the town to explore Barra do logoa, the part of Florionopolis where we're staying. It's a nice little town. There wasn't much going on so we headed back and went to the hostel bar. It's a little higher up looking out over the ocean. I had a little look on Whatsapp and saw pics of my sister on her hen do. The local beer is Skol. I was already drinking one so I took a pic and sent it to get to show I was celebrating her hen do too! At half 7 every night the hostel gives everyone a free caipirinha, a traditional drink in Brazil. After that we had our food. For 20 Reias the hostel was doing a paella. Delightful. We had a few more drinks, chatted to the girls from our room (we are in a 4 bed dorm here) - they told me that they don't use soap to wash their faces and they never moisturise. They both had perfect skin too?! After that we headed to bed. (I washed my face, with soap and moisturised :)
