Well after a night in Bangkok and a very long flight I finally made it to New Zealand!! Flew in to Christchurch more or less on time and cheated and got a taxi to hostel. My brain wasn't up for thinking much more!
Hostel life takes a little getting used to but it's not bad. Kinda like living with family you don't know or talk to haha! Some people are genuinely lovely and others are just.....well strange. I dare say a lot of people put me in the latter category hahaha!
First day, and pretty much up to now consists of wandering around and finding random things to do or look at. The earthquake damage is still very evident and the entire city is pretty much a building site but it has its places where you can find a wee bit of tranquility. The Avon that flows through the centre is very pretty and the botanic gardens is nice and peaceful. Sumner Beach is beautiful and the views from the hills surrounding are amazing! The Re:Start mall is inspired, using converted shipping containers as shops and banks, and there are the museums and usual stuff you expect from a decent sized city.
I had a bit of an issue with the bank so that left me high and dry money wise for a few days but finally got it sorted and can start to look for a car!
Job hunting has started in earnest too so application hell is back on the agenda and trawling websites to see whats on offer around the South Island. Quite glad I don't have a definite plan and I can be flexible!
