Hello from sunny Buenos Aires!
After the whistle stop tour through Uruguay we boarded the boat to Argentina at daft o´clock in the morning (5 am!). When we finally arrived we all piled into the taxis that were waiting for us, which I have to say are a marked improvement from the ones we used in Uruguay although they all drive like complete loons at least the taxis in Argentina do not have multiple v.large cracks in the windscreen. Our very ´friendly´taxi driver was undertaking vans whilst going round blind bends, it was like being at Alton Towers but without the crowds. Once in the hotel we booked ourselves onto a tour of the city so we could see where all the sights are etc, the tour was good we got to see a lot. As it was our last night with the group we decided that it would be fun to go see a tango show, our tour guide fell asleep, Katherine got picked to go on stage which was a shocker and we all got very drunk, it was sad to leave the group the next morning.
Having been used to staying in hotels whilst we were on the tour it came as a shock when we had to spend our first night in a hostle, we had walked round for ages trying to find one that had rooms available. We found one and it was four pounds to stay in a six bed dorm. It was a little on the grotty side when we looked round and I don´t think Miss Uttoxeter approved of the toilet facilities but to be fair they were rank. We stayed for two nights as we couldn´t get anywhere else but then we found a nice clean hostel.
I really like Buenos Aires but we have not been able to go horse riding or go on a wine tour but there is still lots of things to do, we went the Evita museum and the zoo and we saw our first polar bear! The men are a little on the pervy side which can be a little off putting when walking down the road.
Having similar problems crossing the road here as we did in Rio, we´ve had to cross the 16 lane beast a few times which was fun. They do have traffic lights and green men but you can be crossing the road when the green man is showing and nearly be mowed down by some loon of a taxi driver coming from the other direction as they don´t have to stop for crossings when coming from slip roads etc even if there is a green man, you have to have eyes in the back of your head! The lack of give way signs has also proved interesting which normally results in a lot of beeping, which is nice when your hostel over looks a cross roads, stand offs between taxis and buses are the funniest to watch.
We´ve done all of the touristy things and have managed to use public transport all by oursevles with only a little help from a v.hot man in a suit. Think we´re going out tonight which is going to be fun so I´ll keep you posted.
Take care
