It seems like weekly updates are the best that I can do for everyone at the moment..
This past week has been fairly testing, with my grandma's state deteriorating. On Thursday I was informed that she peacefully passed away on Wednesday at the ripe age of 85. She sure is a trooper! Before I left Canada I said my final goodbyes as her time was very limited... 3 months later, after skype dates at the hospice, postcards and letters, she gracefully left us. She truly was such an inspiration to me and I can definitely trace my love of travel and adventurous spirit back to her! Grandma travelled the world, and before I left her she told me that Nepal was her favourite place she had visited. I'm thinking about possibly heading back home to Canada through Nepal as a final tribute to my grandma. There will be more to come on this in later blogs I'm sure.
As for the rest of my week...
I had a bus tour booked for the day after I heard the news. I know my grandma would be upset with me if I cancelled my adventure and lazed around in misery, so instead I got up and went into the city to catch my day tour bus at 6am with my friend Lucy. The day was exactly what I needed. We visited Caversham wildlife park, had lunch in Cervantes - a fisherman's town, visited the Pinnacles (limestone formations in the middle of a desert) and ended our day with some four-wheel driving on the sand dunes and gave sandboarding a go. On our long drive home Lucy and I made plans to keep busy and go to the Perth Zoo the next morning.
The zoo was pretty good.. I'd say it's probably just as good, if not better than the Toronto Zoo, but nothing compared to Steve Irwin's.
Sunday was Anzac (Australian New Zealand Army Corps) Day. There was a 5am memorial service which some of the international students went to, but I didn't make it. Instead I watched the memorial at the start of the footy game.
The rest of the week has consisted of me doing uni work and talking with all of you darlings back home. Thanks!
I'm sure I'll have some more adventurous stories in good time. Until then, all my love and thinking of all at home. xoxo
