Since my last blog I tried to upload the photos and found that the connection was way too slow, so unfortunately you can't see any pictures of the adventures I'm having. The big adventures this weekend were white water rafting the Zambezi and a trip to Livingstone Island to swim at the top of the Victoria falls.
So, rafting first. I decided just to do the lower half of the river for half a dayand so oined everyone at rapid 10. Just getting down to it was an adrenalin rush in itself. Had to walk face first down these rickety angled ladders made of sticks. Took about half an hour to get down there! So I got there eventually, was given a paddle, a helmet, and a life jacket and off we went. I was ot prepared for how big the rapids were going to be. It was amazing! The second rapid I did was grade 4.5, called 'The Mother'. The boat had not flipped all morning on the class 5 rapids, but the Mother had other ideas. Over the boat went. Oh my god, I thought I was going to die! First I got stuck under the boat, then I get out from under it and am swept off down the whole rapid miles from the boat. Despite it terrifying me at the time, it was BRILLIANT! We mananged to keep the boat upright for the rest of the rapids. Just aswell as we saw a crocodile swimming along by the river bank!
The Sunday I went to Livingstone Island. This island is right on the edge of the falls and they take you over by boat. There's a plunge pool called the Devil's pool which has about half metre of rock seperating it from the actual falls, and you get to swim in this! Not only do you swim in it, but they have a guide there who holds your feet so you can look right out over the edge of the falls, straight down into the thundering water below. I thought it was about as cool as the rafting. They then give you a very civilised breakfast sitting on the island looking over the falls and into Zimbabwe. I have some very cool pictures that I wish I could show you all!
The reason for the picture of the zebra with this blog is that, while waiting to go to the island, I got chased by 4 zebra. Seriously, I was just minding my own business, and 4 zebra come tearing straight at me. Don't think I've ever moved so fast in my life! But at least I lived to tell the tale.
Things went a bit downhill from then, as I got ill with flu. Think I just swallowed too much of the Zambezi over the weekend. SoI spent a rubbish birthday feverish in bed, not even being able to eat the cake everyone made to me. Today's the first day I've been back into school since last week. But I'm feeling much better now and will just have a chilled weekend by the pool this week I think.
