So we arrived in Vietnam yesterday. Much to Ryans suprise we made it outside of the airport without being pick pocketed, and took a bus into town to get to the guesthouse we are staying at. All without knowing any vietnamese.
Today we made it to the train station and bought our onward tickets for tomorrow and wednesday.
Tomorrow morning we are taking a local train 3 hours north to the town of Phan Thiet, a fishing village. On wednesday we will be taking a sleeper train with the local yokals from Muong Man (20km from Phan Thiet) to Danang.
We requested a soft sleeper berth, but apparantly there arent any available on our train or they are booked, that part was lost in translation. So we are going to be doing time on a hard sleeper. Not sure how good our nights sleep will be!
We arrive in Danang on thursday and will get a bus to Hoi an, which doesnt have its own train station.
Following the purchase of our train tickets, we bought some breakfast, traditional of course, sticky rice and chicken, and beef stew. I ate a few evil chillies by accident (the hottest I have ever eaten! and I've spent time in India so am reasonably comfortable with spice). Spent the next 30 minutes in pain, my mouth felt scalded and my stomach was not amused.
But apart from that, I recommend the beef stew its absolutely delicious. Our food in Vietnam has so far been much better than Singapore, we're eating vegetables again!
