Andy's & I rode in the RRR MTB race this weekend, which starts at Mt Malloy and ends in Port Douglas on the beach. Andy road the 35km course & I road the full 70 version. We both did well coming 3rd in our classes. I broke my chain and Andy waited up for a friend who got knocked off her bike on a steep fast decent ( The famous Bump Track). After fixing my chain I had to work hard to catch up, ended up with both legs locked in cramps with 1 km to go, quite an experience! The track passed through green rural fields, rainforest, savannah, and ended on the beach. We climbed lots of hills, dived into creek crossings and tackled the greasy clay mud, but it was great fun. There was about 700 riders in all, with most doing the 35km option. The finish celebrations were combined with the end of an ocean Kayak race, all part of the Cairns Adventure Festival week that ends with the Cairns Ironman. Huge crowd of spectators & supporters at the beach for the finish.
