We are living in a nice granny flat in a house in Freshwater, a northern suburb of Cairns. The flat is part of a two story house and we have half of the ground floor, which includes two bedrooms, combined living and kitchenette and a nice bathroom. There is a huge veranda out the back with a beautiful pool and garden. The place is small enough to ensure there is minimum house work so lots of time for exploring the area.
Freshwater is a nice friendly place out amongst the sugar cane fields, not far from the northern beaches and not far (7km) from the centre of Cairns. The Barron and Freshwater rivers are about 2 km and its not much further to Stoney Creek and the rainforest clad hills that lead up to Kuranda and the tablelands. A little further north (8km) is Smithfield and the famous MTB park at which the recent UCI World Cup was held.
The riding around Cairns is great, and there appears to be numerous group rides that we can join. Andy enjoys the ride into her workplace near the centre of Cairns, and I enjoy riding in the local area and at Smithfield MTB park (when I stay upright).
Will post a photo album on this site of our flat, and places around Cairns soon.
