So after a rather dusty night we rose to still calm morning, packed away all of our kit and trundled off on the truck heading for our last stop in the lovely country that is Namibia.... oh how I love it.
Today we were headed for a camp near the Orange River. Now this blog site only recognises it as being in South Africa so until i consult the tour dossier i cannot quite recall exactly where we were going. So anyway it was a rather hot day.... I mean sweltering to the point where you dont quite know what to do with yourself. The next two days were all about kicking back and taking it easy for a couple of days.
When we arrived I actually got over excited by the fact that not only were there sprinklers but there was also grass... yes springy fresh grass with not a spec of dust to be seen can you inmagine the luxury! If you cannot I suggest sleeping on your kitchen floor for a night and then returning to your bed and then only then may you grasp the level of comfort and luxury.
The days were spent lounging around, reading books and generally eating ice creams to ease the effects of the heat. The main highlight however was the canoeing trip down the orange River. Now rapids were mentioned and I thought ooh a bit of adrenaline but all was easy going really with just a few reeds to contend with. It was really just a slow cruise down the river jumping in the water every now and again and sipping on a beer, it really was no effort whatsoever.
I will tell you one thing though I have never seen insects so big in my life and they practically launch themselves at your head it is quite ridiculous. So after a few days lazing around in the sun and running in the sprinklers and eating ice creams we were refreshed and ready for the off. Oh I forgot just one funny story whereby I ended up throwing cubes of ice at some poor innocent bystanderin the camp as me and the tour leader were having a water fight. Why I thought that throwing ice would be helpful in anyway I do not really know. The woman has not taken the matter any further but despite the hearty laughs from the rest of the group you could say that I was left a bit red faced!.
