Lush Life
Hey.
Been in Perth now for about 5 weeks, working weekdays, and going out at the weekend. Have made loads of friends, and have been having a really good time here. Everyone at the hostel seems to have stayed as long as we have to work etc, and we all arrived at similar times, so we've got a good group of us that go out together and we've all become really friendly. Teresa and Gerard and Cath and Sam moved into a house last week cos it was cheaper, but that's only worked out better, cos we've been over there drinking etc for a change of scenery. It's also great that we all work, cos it makes you feel less gutted about having to go. haha
The first two weekends here we worked on the Saturday to get extra money together, and went out on the Saturday night, which puts Sunday out of the equation for me, as the hangover always dominates. The past few weekends have been all ours though, and so we've done lots of touristy type things, and explored Perth, as well as going out.
We decided one weekend to be tourists, and visit the Swan Bell Tower, and go for a walk around the city, taking in the sights and getting lots of pictures. We got fish and chips by the harbourside, and we also went up to Kings Park, and got some cracking photos of the city. Then we went out on the Saturday night to watch the England Portugal game, which obviously turned out to be a bit of a disaster. I was very very drunk, and lost everyone in a kebab shop, before making my way back and being too drunk to get back in the room. Turned out the door was locked! Sometimes the simple things can be the most troubling. I was proper drunk before even leaving the hostel that night though. Passion Pop is lethal!!!
The following weekend I went out on Friday night with Donna, Alex, Claire, Matt and Donough, who seem to have become my regular night out buddies. Went clubbing and randomly bumped into a girl that I met in Sydney the first week I arrived, which was nice. On the Saturday Mike and Mandy bought a car, so we decided to go for a drive along the highway that runs parallel with the coast. We drive up and down it everyday, but never manage to stop to take pics, as we're too busy to, so we went for a drive, stopping at loads of beaches to takes photies. We also went to Fremantle to get some dinner and look around the shops. Oh...and visit the brewery (again)! That night we went out dancing and once again, I managed to get so drunk that anything on Sunday was out of the question, so not much to report there.
Friday night we went over to Teresa and Cath's. Sam can juggle, and I saw my opportunity to learn, so he taught me. After about 3 hours of practice I managed to juggle, but not after dropping the balls about 51,000 times, it was hysterical. Everyone was wetting themselves laughing, but it's harder than you think, and I was impressed that I managed it. So was Sam I think. Now you can't keep me away from anything that comes in denominations of 3, and could be thrown in the air! I'll have to show you all how clever I am when I get back. We all went to the casino saturday night, which was good fun, although I only had $10 to spend after splashing out on daiquiris, so it was win or lose on the blackjack table with my $10 chip, and dam it, I lost. haha Teresa won $55 dollars on this random wheel of fortune type wheel though, and Mike and Mand won £30 playing Blackjack. Sunday I went to the museum and art gallery, which I enjoyed, while Mike and Mandy went back to the casino to watch people gamble. I see a problem developing here! haha
Work has been hysterical. Been really enjoying it, and I've been working with Teresa a lot, who also started working with us. I've managed to spill a bucket of water all over someones cream carpet (while thinking to myself, god, imagine if this water tipped over now), haha. I also let someones dog out by mistake, and spent about half hour trying to get it back in. And then I nearly smashed an ornament that cost $15,000. The stupid pretentious cow shouldn't have told me that then should she...it was inevitable that after being informed I'm handling such expensive goods that I'm going to drop them! Haha I also set someones alarm off without knowing the code to turn it off. Oooops. But then Teresa and Amanda have managed to turn the showers on while cleaning the taps, soaking themselves! At least I've not done that one! I can find my way all over Perth now though-and Perth is great to drive around as you're virtually always driving alongside the coast, which is beautiful. They have even allowed us to take a car home at night, which has been really cool.
The other day me and Teresa had finished a house in half the time we're meant to (as we quite frequently do) but you can't go back to the office cos the boss will question why we're back before we're meant to be, so we normally go shopping, or back to the hostel for a few hours, (haha) but on this particular day there was a storm coming in so we went to the beach to get some good pics of the sea and stormy sky, which was nice as it's usually sunny all the time. There is a also I house that I clean regularly, (which is completely and utterly disgusting) where the woman who lives there looks like Matt Lucas from Little Britain. It's so funny-she looks like Fat Fighters Marjorie Daws. And they have this amazing picture of her and her husband on the wall, and I couldn't help but get a picture of her to put on my website and show you.
I went to Rottnest Island yesterday, which is half hours boat ride from Perth, with Teresa and Gerard. It was so lush, the weather turned out to be perfect, even though it's pouring down today and has been all week. We cycled round the island, which killed me-there was more than one occasion when I couldn't make it up the hill and had to get off and push the bike up. How embarrassing! Haha We also went up the lighthouse, on a tour which was fab. It's still used as the islands lighthouse today, and was really interesting, I've always wanted to go up one, I loved it! And there are some little marsupials called Quakas that are only found on the island...they look like kangaroos but baby ones, and at one point one of them discovered that I had some Doritos in my bag (which was sat open on the floor) and climbed in my bag, nabbed the Doritos bag, and then played tug of war with me when I was trying to get them back, it was so funny. It had a right grip, I nearly lost!
Today was my last day at work....yippeeeeee, cos tomorrow I leave to go back on the road. I'm going with Teresa and Gerard for the first 2 weeks, cos they're heading in the same direction as us, and there are places (like Ayres Rock) that I haven't been to, but Mandy and Mike have, so the plan is for me to go for the first 2 weeks with Teresa and Gerard to go to the places with them that I haven't been to yet, then I will meet with them after then, at Adelaide or somewhere!
So, I have to dash now, as I've got about three million bags to pack up. No surprise there! I'll be in touch again from the south west coast. Speak to you all soon, love Lauz xxx
