Lush Life
Hey...
Sorry about not updating in ages, but since speaking to you all last I've gone from traveller to worker. It's time to get some money again to pay for all the fun I've been having!
But that's dead boring so I'll give you an update from my west coast trip.
After swimming with the Whale Sharks in Exmouth, we were staying waiting to do our dive at the Navy Pier. The weather was too windy to do it though, so we decided to move onto Coral Bay and see if the weather was any better there for us to be able to dive. It was, and so we incorporated our dive with a snorkel with the Manta Rays. They were great, really graceful, and glide along while we snorkled above them. We saw 4 different ones, the first time we got in the water there were 2, one of which was massive, then out of no where this other huge one came swimming along at us. It was so funny, me and Mike didn't know where to turn, there's something not quite right about a huge fish heading in your direction. Then we got in the water again a little while later and got to follow one for about 20 minutes, it was great. Our dive was also fantastic, one of the best dives I've done I reckon. I was confident about what I was doing this time round, so that made it more enjoyable, but the best part was that we saw turtles, and also went to a shark cleaning station where there were 2 sharks being cleaned by some fish. They sit there with their mouths open while smaller fish go in and clean their teeth, and they also have other fish cleaning around their fins and gills. They come up pretty close to you aswell. The biggest one was 2 metres, so it was dead exciting.
Coral Bay itself was lovely, really beautiful turquoise waters, and white sandy beaches, so we sunbathed and snorkled one day, then the boys decided to do another dive, so me and Mandy went on a snorkling trip on quad bikes! There where some really nice snorkling spots in remote parts of the beach that could only be accessed by quad bikes over the sand dunes. It was dead funny, I've never been on one before, and had a bit of trouble turning it, haha, but once I got into the swing of it it was amazing. The guy leading us was going dead fast, and as we were all in a line following each other we had to go just as fast to keep up. I thought he was a complete mentalist at first, but then I was loving it, steaming it over the sand dunes to keep up. When you're on the dunes it's mad, cos you think you might tip or something, but once it's wacked into 4 wheel drive you can pretty much go as fast as you want and the quad just takes it! Absolutely bonkers! I was literally laughing out loud as we were racing along. And the snorkling spots really were spectacular!
Coral Bay was also were we watched our first England Game. And as you lot were all sweltering in the heat on a Saturday afternoon we were freezing our bloody balls off, as it was night here, and cos it's winter it gets very very cold. So cold that I was sat with 3 jumpers on and socks with my flip flops! Then I was adamant that it was too cold to sleep in the tent, and so I was going to sleep in the toilets instead! Haha. Ended up snuggling up to Mandy and Mike as close as was possible though. So, so cold.
From Coral Bay we went to Monkey Mia. We got there in the afternoon and decided to go on a boat trip to spot dolphins. We got to see loads, and really up close, it was great. And the next morning was feeding time, were they all come into the shallow beach waters to be fed. It was good, but watching the pelicans being fed was funnier. They have to be fed to stop them from snatching the fish from the dolphins. Haha They're dead funny, I love them.
From there we headed to Kalbarri National Park, with the intention of doing some walks, but there didn't actually appear to be any! So just went to a few scenic lookouts, then headed off to a town called Geraldton to spend the night there. In Geraldton we ended up coming across fleeces in Woolies (the aus supermarket), and me and Mand were there for ages buying fleecy jackets, fleecy blankets, woolly socks, and hot water bottles! Haha It's seriously that cold here at night! Hysterical to think I'm in Australia! The fleece jackets leave a bit to be desired, but they were a bargain at 6 quid, and we haven't taken them off since!
From Geraldton we headed to the Pinnacles. They're strange pointy rocks that are scattered all over a desert! It has something to do with the sand around them eroding, but they've remained intact. It's really eerie though as when you look at them all into the distance it resembles a cemetery. Still, it was worth seeing.
And from the Pinnacles we headed straight for Perth. Been in Perth now for a fortnight on Wednesday, and I'm really enjoying it, it's the best city I've been to in Aus so far. And we arrived on the Wednesday night, looked for work on the Thu, and started in a job on the Friday. So we landed on our feet really. Mike works for a removals company and me and Mand work for a house cleaning agency. It doesn't sound all that glamorous, but I really enjoy it. We get a company car to drive to the houses in, and some of the houses are out of this world. Proper celebrity style houses. There's some rich b******s here! What I have learnt though is they might be rich but they're dirty. Some of the places I've cleaned has made me wonder how they can employ cleaners without being embarrassed at how utterly piggish they are!!!! So they may have money but they're disgusting!
It's been a great way of getting to know Perth though, as we're driving around all day everyday. So funny though, as we were only here for a day before being given a car and told to get from one place to another! Hysterical! And a week on we still don't really know how we've managed to get from one place to another. The only downside is that we have to leave at 6am every morning, and we have to work 9 days before being paid, so I've been completely skint. I had to sell my mobile phone last week to get some money, haha, so don't try texting me, cos it isn't me anymore! And I've been sneaking onto all the trains without paying, and pretend I'm a concession on buses. Haha. It's working so far though! And I haven't paid last weeks rent, so I might be evicted soon! haha
So, basically we haven't done much here other than work and watch the footie. We're staying at a lush backpackers, and everyone here's dead friendly, I've met loads of people. It's a house converted into a hostel, so it's all very cosy. We've even got a fireplace to warm us up when we're sat watching footie late at night. The 3am games here though are proving to be a killer, especially as we have to go to work at 6am. I went to bed last Tuesday at 9pm, then got up again at 2.45am to watch the England game, then had to go to work for 12 hours straight after. The things we do!!!! Last nights match was 11pm so it was better, but bring on this Saturdays....definitely gonna be out on the piss for that one!
The weather in Perth is lovely...finally. It's realy cold at 6 in the morning on our way to work, but we have our attractive fleeces for then! (Thank god it's pitch black, haha)
I went out on the weekend with a load of the Irish guys here, to watch them play Australia in the rugby. Didn't have a clue what was going on like, but the atmosphere was still good. We worked 6 days last week, and by Saturday I needed to get pissed, so when someone offered to lend me $50 to go out, I snapped it up. Had a really good night though, and spent yesterday dying as usual! Did manage to get to Kings Park though, which has fantastic views over the city and swan river. It was a beautiful day, so we all got loads of food and had a picnic while we were all dying from the night before.
Back to work today, and staying up tonight to watch the Aussies get knocked out, (haha) and then got plans to go out on the town again this weekend, once I've been payed and have some cash! I think I'm gonna like it here!
I'll speak to you all soon, love Lauz xxx
