24th October
We had our fingers crossed to check into staff housing earlier than planned due to the fact that we wanted to be together and be somewhere nice. We headed to the greyhound station and just before buying tickets Ben phoned HOUSE in Whistler and they said it wasn't possible so i decided to give it another try and phoned again and they said it would be okay if we got there before five. We bought our tickets and jumped on the 1pm Greyhound with 10minutes to spare. The trip up to Whistler is beautiful - it took us 2 and 3/4hours due to the fact that there is a lot of roadwork happening in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler. The mountains are snowcapped and the fir trees cover the slopes with the occasional river and lake passing by. We arrived at about 3:45pm and went to the visitor centre to find out where we had to go - getting to the HOUSE office involved a trip halfway up the mountain by bus. We got there and were told that they were too busy and we would have to wait and see if 'maybe' they could check us in. (We didn't just catch a 3 hour bus from Vancouver or anything...) Finally at about 5:30pm someone came to get us and we checked into staff housing located on Panorama Ridge in Brio. We were given sheets, blanket and a towel - thank goodness i have my sleeping bag as the blanket doesn't look incredibly warm. We were also given a welcome package in a reusable shopping bag which contained rules, 'the survival guide to living in Whistler', toilet roll and various coupons for cafes and restaurants. We then went to the IGA in Whistler to get some snacks for the bus and caught the 9:00pm Greyhound back down to Vancouver.

Round one of moving up to Whistler - 4 ski bags, 3 pairs of ski boots, two bags each, backpack - i think you get the idea...we had A LOT of stuff! We had to take it down to the street in loads - one of us staying behind to watch the stuff on the street and wait for the taxi. We were laughed at by quite a few people as they walked by...wonder why? :o)
When we got to the bus station to pick up our tickets we were told that each extra bag would cost us $10 - tad bit expensive and utterly ridiculous!! We decided just to try our luck and it worked - the bus driver was laid back and didn't seem to care that we had way too many bags for three people - he even gave us Greyhound tags to put on them! Felt like going back to the ticket operator and saying "look at us now"....somehow don't think it would have gone down to well though. Due to motion sickness on the return trip to Vancouver Caitlin and I took some tablets that made us so drowsy so the whole trip up was spent sleeping!! We then caught a Whistler taxi to our housing and unpacked a bit. Still no sign of my room-mate....we have been trying to guess what she is going to be like! The rest of the afternoon was spent handing in resumes to various places in the hope of landing a second job - need to replenish the funds!! I had an interview for a candy store which went well but she didn't like the fact that I wanted to work for Whistler Kids as well so i'm not so sure if i will get it. My interview is on the 6th of November for Whistler Kids and i am praying that it will go well - if i don't get that job i will be kicked out of staff housing and then will probably have to come back to Vancouver because there is absolutely no accomodation available in Whistler due to such high demand this season! Just have to go with the flow...it's all one big adventure so just got to take each day as it comes and enjoy it regardless of the situation. Cait and I went to the Rocky Road Chocolate Shop and treated ourselves to a cashew mogul (yummy!) and chocolate with smarties on it.
A bit about Whistler - absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! It looks like a movie set - trees EVERYWHERE and the houses are all so cute. They are expecting lots of snow within the next two weeks so it was good to see it without snow beforehand just so that I can get an idea of what it is like in the summer. The village has everything we need and the IGA is actually pretty good pricewise - we were expecting it to be MUCH more expensive. Am really looking forward to moving up for good and making Whistler our new home!
