Halloween....
Had such a fun day yesterday - Started out by going to gym at lunch time to do a class called 'monster step' - was really fun - 4 instructors took the class together and they all dressed up and played scary music. It was a good way to get into the spirit of things. In the afternoon we walked down to Davie Street to buy some glow sticks and rum for our strawberry daquiris - we walked past a daycare centre and all the kids were dressed up...so cute! Walking home we saw houses that were decked out to the nines - some people had converted the whole of the front of their house into a pirate ship - they went to so much effort and it looked amazing!
Cait and I baked a cake when we got home - I baked it and Cait iced it but we had a bit of a disaster when I forgot to butter the cake dish....In the middle of all of this palaver the fire alarm in our building went off so ended up having to abandon all stations and exit the building down eight flights of stairs! I had done my hair in plaits at the front for my outfit and was climbing down the stairs while at the same time trying to undo those plaits...they weren't the most attractive thing to see!! Turns out it was a false alarm from the 5th floor...not entirely sure what set the alarm off...maybe halloween ghosts?
Our little party was really cool - we decorated our table and had candy, chips and drinks (really healthy i know....haha). Ben tried to teach Cait and I to play Texas Hold Em Poker but i kept forgetting the rules so i think it was a lost cause - was fun while it lasted though!
We also went outside to our back alley and lit some fireworks which are legal here! Was really fun - not quite the same fireworks as you get in Zimbabwe - a lot less dangerous! We could hear fireworks going off all night.
Ended up going to bed at about 3:30am - Cait and I couldn't sleep so ended up watching tv and chatting about all sorts. Was a really fun evening!
