Right so Ive been pretty rubbish with starting my blog in comparision to Charlotte, who needlless to say is always excited about wording and creating a new entry.
As you all know by now we arrived safely in Bangkok and managed to negoitate our way from the Airport without too much moaning or drama! When we arrived at our hotel (easing ourselves in gently with a bit of luxury for the 1st few nights) we were pleased to see that it was a great location, and just what we were expecting. The khosan Place was right on Khosan road, a very lively strip full of bars and backpackers. A very neon street , but just as we'd hoped, full of chaos and many many food vendors in the street etc! We discovered the rooftop bar, which had a thai guy playing guitar... oasis, kings of Leon etc so we settled there and indulged in our first tiger beer :)
The following day we decided to go out to find our bearings, and to find out what was about. The best way for us to travel was by tuk tuk, off we went telling the guy that we wanted to get to the river. he took us all the way across town, to what we were expecting to be where the boats were leaving from.he had infact dropped uson what can only be described as adirt track, which contained what we suspected to be a dead dog in and a old rickety shack. What was clearly the TukTUk drivers friend, then emerged from the shack and led us towards the river where the was a lone boat floating. It looked like it had been washed up, it was like a shipwreck, wouldnbt have got on it if the guy had paid me!
So after many many dramas, attemptings at ripping us off and taking us to their friends buisness' we finally reached our destination of the river. We were however on the wrong side of the river. We wandered and wandered at got totally lost, ended up in a residential areas which can only be described as a slum! The locals looked very confused as to what these two white girls, blatantly tourists with a map weer douin in their street. thanks to Char's map skills we finally managed to get to where we wanted to be.
So the boat trip commenced, we saw all the sight of Bangkok and then visited the floating market for lunch. the river was full of wooden houses on stilts, some were falling apart, some were falling into the water they were unbeliavble. Then after all of these crumbling, erosing buliding, you would suddenly see a huge house which looked like palaces!
The following day we got up early to head to the market. Whilst travelling at very high speeds in a tuk tuk Char started squealing that we were going to die. I was baffled until I saw that the driver was weaving in and out of traffic, mostly on the wrong side of the road, into oncoming traffic. Haha I love it, wat a place!
After the market we headed out to get a traditional thai massage, believe me we needed it after carrying our backpacks around. whilst we were there we also put our feet in with the fish, (que more sqealing from charlotte... and for those of you who dont know her shes not exactly a quiet person) the idea is that they nibble off all of the dead skin, was really weird sensation to begin with, and I wasnt totally sure but another girl sadi the rsults were amazing, so i stcuk with it and but I actually quite enjoyed it in the end. Hayley had emailed to say that she was going to be in BAnkok so we organised to meet for drinks, was good to catch up, and herself and sam had fantastic stories to share!
The following morning I almost had a nervous breakdown while trying to repack the backpack, was touch and go for a while but eventually it all fitted in and we checked out to head to the Grand palace before leaving Bangkok. the palace was amazing, so so beautiful, everything here is so ornate, the buildings were made up of what looked like mirrored tiles, all different colours, which was so stunning and sparkly in the sun. Will upload pictures at some point soon! I had to borrow a shirt from the palace to cover my arms, so you can imagine how lovely i looked!
All in all Bangkok was amazing!
