So in Kanchanburi we also visited Erawan Park with the 7 waterfalls which were amazing, the highlight of which was charlotte falling in whilst wearing her trainers) well that was until we reached the top anyhow! When we reached the top we swam in the 7th fall. later that day we went to the Death Railway and took the train over the railway, which was built by prisoners of war in WWII. A beautiful beautiful place which is ironic really as so much death torture and sadness occured there. After that we went to see the bridge over the river Kwai.
We book the mini bus to take us to Ayutthaya for saturday, and went our friday night and met some blokes who we had also seen at the waterfall. Not learning our lesson from the British Vs American drinking games and drinking of buckets of rum, we stayed out way way too late, drank way way too many buckets of rum. but had a fantastic evening. Needless to say we werent feeling our best for our commute to our next destination.
Well Ayutthaya...it used to be the old capital of Thailand... hmm its an extremly quiet place, with very few tourists, so much so that when u walk down the street everybody tends to stare. The first night we were here we stayed in what me and Char have since been referring to as 'the house of horrors' ew of course then immediatly checked into 'Tonys Place' a much more suitable hostel.
We took a tour of the city by tuk tuk and saw many many temples and old ruins, which was interesting, but got a bit repetitve...there are onyl so many sets of ruins you can look at before they all start to appear the same. the visiting of 'the head of the sandstone buddha image' was interesting. This is a sandstone buddah, with all that remaims being its head. Its in a tree. Weird but kinda amazing.
The highlight of the day was encountering a school trip of Thai kids, who were all totally fascinated with us. They all wanted to practice their english and wanted to take photos of us. They were confused by my height and my blue eyes.... they just kept staring. Im guessing they dont see many westerners here! Antyhow we ended up posing for many many photos, not that we minded as the kids were so lovely and so so polite! Could teach the english a thing or two!
Anyhow thats pretty much it for this place.... cant say Im sorry to be seeing the back of it.. but you win some you lose some i guess thats what this trip is all about!
Catching the over night train to Chaing Mai tonight, its about a 12hr journey but Im strangely excited as I get my own bunk bed!!
