"Mi Novio" (My Boyfriend)
So you will have to excuse me for this blog because I am writing this purely for the enjoyment that I had with this story last night. I come to find out that my senora has thought that I have had a serious boyfriend over the past few years and I left him back home. I tried to explain that I haven’t had a boyfriend but that I AM interested in men. When you joke about there being “no guys out there for me” they DEFINITELY may accidently interpret it as you swaying the other way… Thus! My description of searching for the right guy and not being interested in many men for the past three years was interpreted as I had been searching but FOUND a boyfriend over the past few years. Hahaha. Muy ridiculoso! Now, don’t judge me because I did this, but I went along with it. I don’t know if it were the pure humor of being able to make up any situation I want because she doesn’t know the true story, or that I just didn’t want to have to try and explain to her in Spanish for, yet another, hour! So… Like the true comedian I am I made up an elaborate story that went something like this:
I met my boyfriend when I was in Chicago. But, little did I know that he was from Minnesota! So things worked out perfectly! A boy from Chicago and goes to school by me in Minnesota! Dream come true! Then of course, I don’t have any pictures of him, didn’t want to pack them. He is tall, dark and handsome. Oh and in case I forgot to tell you, ITALIAN! If you could all have seen her face when I was describing my dream man… She kept saying, he sounds too good to be true! So then I had to take it down a notch in case she was catching on that I completely was making this up in that very moment! So I said, the only problem is that he usually stays in Minnesota for the summer and I don’t. Also, he is older than me and my parents love him, but my friends don’t. Only because they’re jealous, of course! So as I sadly described this “man in my life” I realized how depressing this really was! I am in Spain, making up some alias to someone who has probably heard crazier stories than mine and I’m sure she could care less unless I told her that he was coming to visit at some point. So, I decided to break up with him yesterday. The sad ending the best relationship I have ever had…. And to think a guy was involved in it…. Definitely too good to be true!
Anyways, I told her last night that I broke up with my boyfriend and she started laughing and cheering for me! She told me to go get dressed and go find some sevillanos to talk to… Apparently, they make any girl feel better? So, Megan and I went out and met up with some friends from our school, and oddly enough, the first person to talk to me in the bar is a man named Antonio. A nice Sevillan man who knew too much English if you ask me! I feel like he was used to chatting with the Americanas bonitos (cute American girls). And of course, being the suave Spaniard he was, he asked for my number, I declined, and he said he hopes to still see me again, because then I cannot NOT give him my number.
When I walked back into the house, later that night, Aurora was there waiting… She stood up with her dog (Malla) and walked over to me with a large grin on her face to say “Spain is fun when you’re young, isn’t it?” Not even giving me time to tell her about any part of my night, she turned off the lights grabbed Malla and said “Buena noche! (Good night!)”
When I woke up in the morning, she didn’t even want to hear about my night! All she said is that she “hopes I had a wild and crazy night (“safe fun” as she likes to call it.).”
All in all, safe to say that I know I probably shouldn’t have lied to her about my “boyfriend” but then again, my life stories wouldn’t entertain you all enough! So although many of you may have thought by the end of this I would have said that I met a handsome Spaniard who has swept me off my feet but I’d hate to break it to you but that has yet to come!
Love and miss you all!
