Hello all from Rio...

We are just at the end of our first leg of our big adventure - arrived in Rio on Monday night very late, after a tearful farewell at Heathrow T5... lots of love and cuddles exchanged with family and then off we trotted!

A very cool place to kick off the travels, in a real nice hostel in Santa Teresa, a very cool, boho district of the city... good base to explore and we have met some great people already - swapping routes, experiences, emails and stories.... some of which we´d rather not have heard! Oh well.....

Got up Corcovado to see Cristo Redentor which was very impressive.... sadly we weren´t blessed with the weather as in the picture above, but was quite a sight nonetheless. We sadly didn´t get up Sugar Loaf mountain due to the cloud and visibility, so Kat - we shall put your dosh to something else instead if that is ok?! We´ve been to the beaches which were cool, although again, probably infinitely more impressive with a bit of sun on them! Have had some lovely food etc and of course indulged in some caipirinhas - yummy!

We leave Rio in a few hours to jump aboard a coach destination - Iguacu Falls - journey will take 23 hours...!!! Welcome to South America eh?! It´s huge over here...... After there, we will either head back south down the Brazilian coast or into Uruguay...
