Hello everyone, so we've finally got round to writing our first blog! We're now in San Fransisco, but we'll fill you in on the rest first.
So, our flight out to New York was eventful: having no visas and then forgetting to check in at Paris made for a stressful journey, all valuable experiance we told ourselves. Eventually arriving in NYC after 14 long hours we stepped out for a slice of pizza before bed.
The hostel itself was ok, clean enough, and in a great location right next to central park, though the staff were miserable and our dorm mates weren't a social bunch. Though maybe this was our fault as we were out pounding the sidewalks 10 hours a day!
On our first day we grabbed some typical amercian breakfast at a diner, pancakes, oj and cawfee! We then headed to Staten island ferry and circled the statue of liberty, alot smaller than we thought. We then spent the rest of the day wandering the financial district- ground zero, battery park and wall street. We then walked across brooklyn bridge, by this time we were getting weak so headed to china town and little italy for some refreshments- Peroni! We then took a wander through Soho, a real trendy bouncing area before heading home really tired.
The next few days were action packed... and wet! Not what we had expected but it made us feel at home. So off we went shorts, vest and see through ponchos. Here a few of our NYC highlights: Central Park, a great escape from city life, and we got free milkshakes so that was breakfast sorted :) Also we visited times sq, both in the day and night which really brought it to life. we even saw the naked cowboy who is a busker in white undies, boots and cap! We also visited grand central station (amazing) and went up all 86 floors to view new york from the empire state building. It was like a lego land below. Rain rain go away... still wet in NYC! Natural history museum was really good, although far to big for Lauren and I's weakness, we were giggling and goofing around by the time we got to the 6th floor. Generally, after our busy days we hit the hay around 10, but one night a bargain pursuaded us otherwise. $7 dollars all you could drink in some redneck bar: gr8 fun, lots of old men in cowboy outfits and plenty of neon signs you see in all the american films. This bargain turned into a blunder the next day as our hangovers kicked in.
Overall, had a super time in the big apple, crazy place, crazy weather and crazy people! Next blog: Philli.
Hope everyones well, lots of love Nathan and Lauren xxx
