So Homeys.. we are back online.. apologies for the delay.. I can see the Millard clan were really worried.... severe lack of messages on our board.. poor form but top marks to our number 1 fan... Mummy Fowler!!!
Anyhow.. we made it to Chiang Mai which now seems like absolutely ages ago. Given that we only had three days there.. we jumped straight onto the Gibbon experience- basically about 6 hours swinging through he trees (very uncomfortable harnass)... Millard felt that she was back with her true family ha.. they had equally long toes. So we did that for a few hours which was bloody hilarious!!
Next day we set off on our 2 day trek. Everyone had told us that the tourist trek was pretty tame.. trodden paths... nice, relaxing stroll through the trrees.. however in traditional Millard/Fowler style, we accidentally signed up for the Eco Trek.. i.e. death trek. First of all we met our group.. true eco freaks.. clearly hadnt showered for a couple of seasons.. mono-brows and dreadlocks all round.. pure delight!!! We were all squashed into the back of a truck and quite frankly the smell was pungent!! First activity was the elephant trek... a couple of nights previously we had watched animals gone wild and seen some Elep[hants that had lost control and started attacking tourists.. so we were already not really up for it!! These wild beast sensed our fear!!! We cimbed onto a reasonably small one, too small for the seat on his back which meant Tara and I were severely lopsighted.. there were too many of us and so a poor Japanese Tourist was forced to sit practically on our elephants head.. with no harnass or anything!!! Turned out to be bloody hilarious as our elephant had a cold and the Jap tourist was getting the brunt of the snotty trunk.. however one big sneeze managed to cover fowler.. her legs, arms and face... ha sick!!!! We then set off on our trek... oh the pain... we literally were forced to climb a mountain for 3 hours... I do not exagerate!!! so steep we nearly vommited... covered in sweat and getting bitten alive.. delightful. We finally reached the top of the mountain and the village where we would be staying. We were totally dead and not overly impressed with the small bamboo shack where we would be spending the night with other members of our group. We washed ourselves in the freezing trickle of water that they dared to call the shower- the others decidied that cleaning or even changing clothes was not necessary- the aroma was sweet as you can imagine. Next day, after a very uncomfortable night we set off back down the mountain.. you would think this easier.. but oh know.. the route we took was so steep, we spent most of the day on our butts!!! We then spent the afternoon whitewater and bamboo rafting.. we were totally dead.
It would have been delightful if we could have got a good nights sleep that evening but unfortunately we had to get on the night bus to Bangkok!!!! We arrived in Bangkok at 5am... spent a couple of hours in a restaurant and booked our night bus from Bangkok to Kuala Besut in Malaysia or so we thought!! We had a few hours in Bangkok and managed to get a massage and facial in.. slumming it is tough!!! The journey to Malaysia was an absolute disaster!! We got on the nightbus and had some fat Germans sitting behind us who would not let us put our chairs back and so we spent the night bolt upright.... it felt so good!!! After about 6 bus changes we found ourselves on a public bus which was just going to drop us off at the border and not in the Malaysian Town as we had thought.. This was a problem as the border that we are crossing is apparently really dangerous and there is lots of fighting between the Budhists and the Muslims!!! So you can imagine how excited we were to be dropped off in the middle of the night at the Malay border... on our own. Lucky we saw no trouble but the Malaysian guards thought we were bloody out of our minds..crazy white girls.
Anyway.. to cut a long and painful story short, we finally arrived at the Perhintian Islands. I cannot explain how stunning they are. Two Islands, white sands and crystal clear water,, absolutely amazing. We arrived literally the first day of the season and so we were practically the only people there!! We booked straightaway onto a diving course which started the next day. There were only the 2 of us in our group so we got undivided attention from our instructor Troy!!!! No not the Spartan!!! First dive Millard saw a shark.. typical... dont worry she hadn't washed for a few days and so the shark stayed well away. After Tara had snorted a few gallons of water, we both passed which means we can now go out diving on our own... very worrying!!!! We really never wanted to leave yje islands but we dragged ourselves back to the mainland and have now made our way to Kuala Lumpur.
KL is an amazing City.. loads of high-rise buildings, huge shopping centres and skytrains. We found Topshop today and did some serious damage. We are also working ourway through all the deserts in the shopping centre.. pure delight. We are off to Bali day after tomorrow to learn to surf so will hopefully burn off those additional calories.
Anyway.. hope that everyone is well and safe.. we miss you lots.. so get ur butts out here for some Fowllard loving!! xxx
