So Kids... we left Dalat for Hanoi.. a 36 hour bus ride.. yes it was emotional. Dirty, dirty bus and due to the fact that there are no real roads in Vietnam.. a very bumpy ride!! We arrived in Hanoi at 5am and were dropped in the middle of nowhere.. it was raining.. emotions were running high!!! We arrived at our Hotel which Wayne and Ross, who were already staying there had sortes out.. legends.
After a little nap.. we got up to explore..Hanoi is absolutely freezing.. seriously!!! We had no warm clothes and so just wore everything in our rucksack making us look like complete numpties... adding to our pain.. everything was closed for the Bloody Chinese New Year which bloody goes on for like a week. Literally nothing was open. So we went on a little trip to Halong may.. one of the Natural Wonders of the world and it was absolutely stunning but we were all a bit depressed about the severe coldness to appreciate the beauty at the time. The rest of our time in Hanoi we spent walking around the lake and drinking lots of tea which was a pure delight.
We said our fairwells wo Ross and Wayne which was very emotional and got on a 24 hour bus to Ventiane.. Capital or Laos. The bus again totally sucked. We arrived at the border at roughly 4am- of course the border was closed so we just had to wait there for literally 3 ours to corss over into Laos. The border as usual was complete chaos. 100s of people queuing for hours.. Tara and I had run out of Vietamese money which was a minor problem as you had to pay a charge to leave the country.. fortunately we had our flute and recorder on us and played a few tunes.. we soon raised the money!!
We finally arrived at Vientiane... it was warm- praise the Lord. We check into our Guesthouse and somehow had managed to accumulate another 2 travellers who were on their own.. so 4 in a room very snug.
Next mroning we got up early agin to get on a bus to Vang Vieng- only 3 hours though which now seems like nothing. Vang Vieng is literally the most a mazing place.. a little town, with a mountain backdrop. The main river here is the party place. You hire tubes at the top and float down, getting pulled into bars on the banks.. it is literally amazing. We were only meant to be doing 1 day here.. but today is our 3rd oh. 1st day we tried to cross the river to the bar on the otherside.. we underestimated the strength of the current and how strong the buckets were that we had been drinking.. surprise surprise Laura fell over and got dragged halfway down the river on her butt. Tara was laughing to hard to provide any assistance... or maybe she was getting revenge for the rafting event. At Night, everyone goes to smile bar.. there is a massive camp fire and the good times keep coming. We plan to leave tomorrow for Chiang Mai in North Thailand.. where we will be treking.. God help us!!
Hope everyone is well.. congratulations to mum for becoming a qualified baby yoga teacher (very proud of you) and happy birthday Becks for wednesday xxx
