Bula!
So Saturady left Auckland, had a rubbish time at the airport as for some reason vomited a few times, took an ant sickness tablet (knew i was lugging them round for a reason) and felt better after that.
Got to Nadi in fIJI AFTER A 4 hour flight and booked the Nadi bay hotel from the airport. Had a 4 bedded dorm, sharing with a nice Sydney girl from Hornsby where Mag and John live and a nice mid aged London women. Resort was basic but nice with a lovely pool. Watched a local fire eating show and booked a 7 day boat hopper pass on the Yasawa islands. Got picked up at 0730 and taken to the marina. We booked to stay at OTTo and Fannys at Tavewa island which is at the top of the Yasawas. Sat out on the deck and viewed all the islands on the 5 hour boat ride. Checked into Ottos with a kiwi bloke called Tony and a eng/dutch couple called Ben and Helena. Found that we were the only people staying at the resort, was at the blue lagoon area where the film was filmed! The resort was basic but nice with palmtrees and hammocks everywghere, had a nice bure (hut). There is no electricity between 2300 and 0600 and youre not aloud to use electrical stuff like hairdryers at anytime, normally that would be a tradgedy for me but the hairdresser has cut all my layers so short that it looks bad if i make an effort or not so i don't! Went snorkelling and lay on the beach which was nice, loads of royal blue velvet sea stars everywhere. Had dinner just the 5 of us which was nice enough. Tony said that he was going to walk to the coral view resort at the other side of the island, we all joined him for an adventure in the pitch black with lanterns. Ended up being no beach due the tide so had to walk through the jungle and sea and got lost - funny though. Got to an almost deserted place as ours except for some locals who invited us for kava (local drink made with root powder), tastes like muddy water but apparently is mildly narcotic and makes youre tongue go numb. Was scared about our walk back so only had a little, my excuse anyway! Our walk back however was thankfulluy more succesful.
Monday got the speedboat with the others to Nanyan resort which is even closer to the lagoon. Spent the day there, very nice place, nice beach, nice hammocks, nice lagoon, just very nice! Had lunch and did lots of snorkelling. Saw barracudas and a black and white stripy sea snake, Helena is a dive instructor and said is really dangerous and can be a killer! Back to our resort and had dinner, drum is beat when dinner is served. It was indian food, not quite my cup of tea and was starving too! Did well though and managed to fill myself up. Had more guests, a brummy couple and a bloke called Carlos from Valencia, ALL VERY NICE. Was Tony's birthday and he insisted all the drinks were on him, he already had a crate of beer and said all us girls wine were on him, felt bit cringable but what can you do! Auntie Fanny also made Tony a big choc birthday cake and all sang him happy birthday and gave him a fresh frangipani necklace which was lovely. Anyhow had funny conversation as the brummy Shane Ritchie bloke was a real charecter. Had a good night, lucky to have good people otherwise having dinner at 1830 would have had us in bed by 2000! There was a fire burning on the island oppisite which had stopped by the morning but burnt down alot of the plantation.
Tuesday was rather windy, went and lay on the beach before getting the 1300 boat south to Mantaray island. Will update you from there!
Love and miss you all loads usxxxxxx
