Off to the beach again this morning...this time to try something we've wanted to do for ages - paragliding! We've seen it on lots of beaches but it's usually too expensive, particularly when we're on holiday in Spain spending Euros! Here, I'd done my research during a walk along the beach a couple of days ago and found somewhere (a few guys sat under a tent on the beach - I'd like to see their Health and Safety certificate!) that did tandem glides for 600,000dong (about £20).
So we strolled along, paid our money and left our stuff under the tent, including my glasses ('You leave here. Much better') which turned out to be a wise move... Within minutes, we had our life jackets on and were strapped into the parachute. Laura had to remind them to attach one clip that was dangling loose (health and safety...health and safety!) and then we were ready for the off. The boat set off and we were lifted up from the beach to about 30-40m high above the ocean. We had a fantastic view all along the beach and we were buzzing with adrenaline, then we were dunked into the sea, with Laura screaming on the way donw! After the splashdown, the boatmen managed to lift us out of the sea again, and we raced towards the beach, which came towards us a little too quickly and we landed on our backsides on the sand with a bump! It was all over in probably no more than five minutes - I'd have liked a little longer but we're both glad we did it...next step = a skydive!
Next, we headed to Louisiane Brewhouse, a huge bar/restaurant on teh beach with its own pool, and we spent a few hours relaxing after our ride. The food and drinks were pricey but were served to your sunbed - fantastic service! There were lots of Vietnamese families enjoying the pool and the sunshine on the second day of their bank holiday, plus some Westerners who were obviously regulars and acted as if they owned the place - worst kind of tourist...who knows what the staff must really think of them?
On the way back to the hotel, we headed to our favourite breakfast spot, Cafe Veranda. This time we enjoyed a late lunch and then headed back to the room for a few hours.
In the evening, we went out and ate (again!) at a cheap Italian - we didn't have much money left after our day at the posh pool and paragliding! So it was an early night for us...probably more of the same tomorrow! It's far too easy to do nothing for a few days!
