The final leg of what has been an unforgettable year..
We began with a train ride to the airport which we managed without any problems - we're experts at this travelling thing after a year away! After a final fried breakfast, we reluctantly headed for our penultimate flight, from Beijing to Heathrow (I was wearing my 'I Climbed the Great Wall' tshirt that we bought the other day!).
The flight went smoothly and we had plenty of room with empty seats either side of us. After a few films and lots of food, we were back on British soil - a really strange feeling after so long away, but it was good to be home.
We visited WH Smith where Laura bought a wedding magazine to represent the start of our next adventure! We logged onto the computers in the departure lounge to announce the news that we were home on facebook, then watched BBC News on the big screens until it was time for our flight back to Newcastle. At the other end, we were excited to see everyone again and were met by both Mams and Dads - a very happy reunion! Then it was back to Boro and reality again...
Our dream year of globetrotting was finally all over. It's hard to pick out highlights because every day was an adventure waiting to happen, and I think that that was the highlight for me - the feeling of knowing that anything could happen and the constant discovery of new places, amazing people, spectacular sights, sounds and once in a lifetime experiences. The trip has inspired us with a desire to keep exploring and I'm sure that there'll be many more adventures to come, beginning with planning our honeymoon in 2014.
We'll finish this blog with another quote, this time from Mark Twain:
"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover"
And we did!
