Today Nicky and Duncan left Octopus to go to another island, so after breakfast we exchanged email addresses with them and waved them off when their boat left at 11am (trying to sing along with the traditional Fijian goodbye song!). It's really good meeting all these people but it's sad when they leave :(
The weather was still bad (3rd day with no sun) so we hung around near the bar til lunchtime. At lunch we sat with Hannah and Johnny and a new arrival - an English girl called Elena. She had done a similar trip to Hannah and Johnny so over lunch we chatted about places they've all been and that we will be heading to soon. We stayed at the table after lunch reading magazines (I caught up with the last weeks closer magazine!) and playing cards. After a while Dave fancied a walk so we walked along the beach in the other direction to where we got engaged, and I collected some pretty shells and bits of coral that will look very nice in our bathroom when we eventually have our own place again! It was quite hard work walking on the sand as you sink with every step!
When we got back we sat and read for a while longer then went back to the dorm for a nap before dinner. The activity that night was the famous Octopus quiz night that we'd done the week before, so we were hoping for the same questions! We briefed our table that there was a talent round so we all got our thinking caps on (I greeted people by saying 'hi, do you have a talent at all?'). We also needed a good team name and we came up with 'kava kava kava kava kava chamelion'. Along with Hannah, Johnny and Elena we were sat with Sam (English) and Peter (Irish). The talent we decided on was a human pyramid (Me, Dave, Peter and Elena on the bottom, Hannah and Johnny second level, and Sam on the top!). We didn't do too badly in the quiz (due to some questions being the same as last week!). Before the talent round we were given 5 minutes to practice so we headed to the beach and saw another team doing a human pyramid!! So they thought we'd copied off them but we hadn't!
We made our pyramid a bit different as Sam stood on the top instead of kneeling and while she was up there we all sang 2 lines of 'kava chamelion', then Sam jumped off the top onto the sand below....impressive?? Unfortunately, we didn't win the talent round but were in the top 3 overall so had to take part in the olympics round to decide overall winners. After push ups, bad jokes and rock, paper, scissors the 3 teams were equal so the decider was an anagram a la Countdown conundrum.........and Hannah got it first! So we won a champagne breakfast on the beach the next morning! Woo!! (Later on we spoke to Fraser and he told us that most weeks they have at least one team doing a human pyramid!)
As we were still on a high from our victory we got the cards out and played a few games before heading to bed, and Johnny cracked open his delicious Mint Liquor (yuck!). What a difference a week makes in the world of the Octopus Quiz!
