The Proposal........
Today it was very hot and sunny again so after breakfast we sunbathed at the beach, relaxed in the hammocks and read our books. After lunch, we sat relaxing at the pool for a few hours (such a hard life!).
The sky was clear so we decided to get ready early then walk along the beach to find a spot to watch the sunset. We found a rock to sit on and paddled in the water for a while as the sun was still quite high. We watched a family scramble across the rocks, they obviously got cut off by the tide!
As the sun began to set Dave asked me to sit on the rock.....and then he got down on one knee...and after a few special words asked me to marry him!! I replied 'I think yes!!'. He produced the ring from his pocket (cleverly disguised by his sunglasses!) and put it on my finger! It was an amazing moment in an amazing setting and I will never forget it.
We had to move further up the beach to watch the sunset as the tide had almost cut us off where we were sitting. We sat and tried to take our official engagement photo, and took photos of the sunset and my drawing in the sand 'L & D 31.07.11'. After the sun went down, we headed back to the main beach and found Duncan and Nicki so they were the first people we told, plus Kevin who was sat in the background. We hadn't met him yet at that point so he said 'Congratulations...and nice to meet you!'.
We decided to wait until we get to New Zealand to tell everyone back home, as it's really hard to get in touch with people from here. We ordered a bottle of Rose champagne and drank it by the pool before dinner to celelbrate! Kim and Angelika from New Zealand walked by and we told them our happy news!
At dinner (even more delicious than normal!), Fraser and Dominique (the managers) sat with us and mentioned there was a wedding on the next day, so Dave said 'Well...' and we told them our news! They seemed quite surprised, and congratulated us, then gave us some of their bubbly! The activity that night was movie night under the stars. The film we voted for was 'The Other Guys' but I fell asleep after about 20 minutes, and Dave fell asleep towards the end! A good start to engaged life!
