So we made into Auckland just fine no plane crashes, although Kate got really hasselled by the Immigration guy on a power trip. Just about to declare that we had no food in our bags and go through customs when we realised we had a pack of Tim Tams which are a nicer version of Penguin bars and so stuffed ourselves with Tim Tams while queueing for customs.
Got to our massive hostel found our bed met a Welsh girl and a guy from Chicago and as there was free beer at the bar (for about 10 mins) we went out.
Next day woke up saw the Welsh girl off on her Bus tour, went up the sky tower as we had a free pass from our hostel and saw a bird eyes view of Auckland. Then we caught a ferry to an Island called Devonport climbed an exstict volcano and sat on a bench for hours admiring the views of Auckland before catching the ferry back. We back to the hostel to use the internet and who do we bump into but Laura's friends Arun, Alex and Dave who are also on a round a world trip. What are the odds! That evening we went out again, but didn't stay late as we all were exhausted!
On our third day we decided to do a coast to coast walk from on end of Auckland to the other, saw lots of old volcanic craters views of the city and surprisingly lots of schools. We got 3/4 of the way (the walk is 16km long) and gave up as we had to find a phone to ring up our van rental company to arrange a time to pick up the van and it was also getting dark. So we went into a hospital used their phone and cash machine and caught a bus from there into the city. Then we went to a supermarket to stock up on food, cooked our selves some pancakes with varying degrees of success ad went to meet the guys in the Hostel bar. Then we had a really good night on the town.
Next morning we missed our check out time by an hour (but the kind reception lady didn't charge us late check out fees). Went to our van rental place 2 hours late, but weren't the only ones to miss our pick up time and the place was over run with people wanted to collect vehicels, we were told to pick up the van in 2 hrs time, which suited Laura as it gave her time to buy the new Harry Potter bk and start to read it.
That evening we headed to a town called Hamilton found a campsite to stay in and had the intention of going to watch the New Zealand and Australia rugby game but fell asleep exhausted.
