For part of Kates Birthday card Laura wrote some poems, one of them she expanded (with the help of Kate) so we can write it for the nuns when we leave in their volunteering book. Here it is:
The children we meet,
Don't have shoes on their feet,
But they always wear a smile.
They take care of each other,
Even though some don't have mothers,
And come to the centre from miles.
They are here to have fun,
And say, "Aunty come!",
In a place that is full of love.
They can take a break from their troubles,
And even blow some bubbles,
Whilst playing freely like a dove.
The sisters are in charge,
And their hearts are large,
Providing welcomes that are hearty and warm,
To god they dedicate themselves,
For money coconuts they sell,
So they can fix childrens lives that are torn.
The workers here work hard,
And will even sign your Birthday Card,
Whilst trying to help the children learn.
In the fields some work,
Some cook our meals, which is a perk,
But they came here to do more than earn.
The volunteers come from far and wide,
And all do their work with pride,
But don't come between April and May,
The Summer seasons too hot,
Although lots of mangos they've got,
To eat during the heat of the day.
Our 2 months here is at an end,
And we've made lots of friends,
That we will cherish and remember forever.
We've learnt more about life here,
Than we could back home in a year,
And forget you we will never.
We appologise profusely if it caused you to vomit.
