This afternoon Soenke (pronounced Zunker), another of Thomas' good friends, showed us around Cologne. I was a major tourist and took lots of pictures of the breathtaking Dome, and the Rhine from the promenade as well as eating pork schnitzel for dinner!
We spent the afternoon walking around the town and Soenke shared some of the history of the Cologne (he's as English and Arts teacher) before having a cold beverage by the river.
The feel of Cologne is a bit more touristy than Dusseldorf, lots of American tourists were out today. It has the Dome and a couple of older buildings but most were destroyed by the war. The city is speckled with new and old buildings - kind of a 'mix and match' feel. Unfortunately it was a Sunday so all shops were closed today, the Germans take this seriously. Especially the banks which are strictly open Monday to Friday only and close between 12.00-1.30 for lunch.
