We left Agnes Water/Town of 1770 in the evening and it was a long journey to Airlie Beach. The total bus trip was 10 hours, our longest since Melbourne to Sydney, and we decided to take the night bus. I forgot that this wasn't such a good idea! The driver put on a couple of films that I slept all the way through, and then once they had finished I couldn't sleep anymore. It was so uncomfortable and frustrating for everyone because we were all tired. We arrived at Airlie Beach - finally- at just gone 6 in the morning. We got to the hostel only to find our room wouldn't be ready until 12, so we had 6 hours to kill. This was a nightmare because all that any of us wanted to do was go straight to bed. We hung around the hostel for a couple of hours until it was a more reasonable time and then we went for breakfast and a bit of a look around. By the time we could check in the queue was massive and it was a bit of a hassle, but we got there eventually. The rooms were alright but the best thing was they had a TV! This was the first hostel we had been in that had a TV in the room and it was a bit of a novelty. We just spent the rest of the day in bed, only getting out to make dinner.
The next morning Justin and I went out to get some food and then had a walk along the main strip. We went to a bead shop where you could make your own braclets which was great fun - even Justin enjoyed himself! We spent the rest of the day down by the lagoon with the others. Despite it's name Airlie Beach doesn't have a great beach and you're not supposed to swim much in the sea because of the stingers, so they built a massive man-made lagoon. It's actually really nice and better than lying on the beach asthere's no sand. It's just a huge swimming pool with loads of different areas, bridges and palm trees. It's lovely! It was a hot day so we just chilled out there. By coincidence we also saw the group we met on Fraser Island there, and they had booked to do their Whitsunday Islands trip on the same day as us which was good. That night after dinner all of us, except from Justin and Chris, went out for some drinks. Airlie Beach has a great nightlife and some really good bars. We went to Magnums first and then to the hostel bar called Morroco's, where they had karoke. Luckily for everyone else I didn't take part! It was a good night though, and at the end of the night we decided to go for another swim in the lagoon fully clothed!!
The next day we just relaxed as it was a bit too cloudy to sunbathe, ate too much McDonald's and did some washing. After dinner some of the others went out but Justin and I stayed in to prepare ourselves for the Whitsunday Island cruise which we were going on the next day!
