Brač & Hvar
We arrived on the island of Brač on Sunday 18th July. We got a ferry from Split then hopped on a local bus across the island from the port of Supetar to the town of Bol. Bol is famed for its water sports in particular kite surfing and windsurfing. It is also the location of Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) beach that juts out into the sea and is probably the most photographed beach in Croatia. We found our accommodation then explored the picturesque town. That evening we ate at one of the restaurants on the front before heading to bed.
The 4 days we had on Brač were mainly spent relaxing on the pebbly Zlatni Rat beach along the wooded coastline of the peninsula. In the evening we had food at the different restaurants on the harbour side. The beaches were busy but the sea was really cool and we invested in a beach umbrella to shade us from the strong sun. The town also got fairly busy in the evenings with plenty of nice yachts staying in the harbour overnight. We also got right into ice creams and visited the same cafe each day to sample their plethora of frozen delights!
After 4 days we had planned to go to the neighbouring island of Hvar and got a half an hour ferry on Thursday to the port of Jelsa. From Jelsa we caught the 6.15 bus to Hvar Town where after some time and a few phone calls we were collected by our accommodation. The apartments were a little out of town and for the first night we were put into a room with no air con as they had messed up the booking. What was great however was the view over the bay and to the various small islands nearby. Hvar Town is extremely pretty and retains much of its old Venetian charm despite plenty of development around the rest of the island. We spent 3 nights on Hvar and enjoyed wandering around the town as well as relaxing on the pebbly beaches.
After 3 nights we left Hvar catching the 7.45am catamaran on Sunday morning back to Split. After a pretty choppy 1 hour journey we got to Split and boarded a bus to Dubrovnik. After another 5 hours and a quick drive through Bosnia and Herzegovina we reached the medieval city of Dubrovnik on the southern tip of Croatia.
We walked up several hundred steps to our hostel, booked in then got the bus into the city. After a walk around the impressive marble streets enclosed within the city walls we hit a pizza and went back to our room. The next day we were off again this time to Montenegro!
