Hello everyone!! Hope all is well back at home! How cold is it there?!! I've heard rumours of snow and flooding and all sorts!! Don't want to rub it in but it is gorgeous over here!!
Right well I am now officially on my own now, Tamsyn has just caught her plane back to sydney and i am heading up to a place called 1770 tonight...weird name i know but it is actually called that. Its meant to be a cool place and i will hopefully get to do some snorkelling and stuff as it is just at the start of the barrier reef!
The last couple of weeks have been amazing and i had a really good time with tamsyn. Since i last wrote we went to noosa which was really nice and the weather was gorgeous so we went to the beach which was really nice. We then headed to rainbow beach which is a tiny little place with only about a 100 metre stretch of shops! We went to a sand blow on the first day which was cool then on the 2nd day we were supposed to go sea kayaking to spot dolphins but it was to windy which was a real shame and because it was such a small place there wasn't really much to do so it was a bit boring!
we then headed up to hervey bay which is where we went to fraser island from. Hervey bay is cool and we went out the first night to the hostel club which was cool and met loads of people who had just got back from fraser island and we got very excited as it sounded amazing. They weren't wrong either...it was awesome..the best part of my trip so far!
We were doing a self drive 4x4 camping trip to fraser island and we started out by meeting our group who we would be spending the next 3 days with. Luckily our group was really good and we has some really fun people! We left the next day, had to get up really early but it was worth it! We arrived on fraser at about 11am and went straight to lake mckenzie which is gorgeous.. i will put the photos up for you to see for yourself but it was definately the most beautiful thing i have seen since i;ve been away. We then had to head to pitch our tents! we ended up camping on the beach for two nights which was really cool. We met up with some other groups who were camping with us and stayed up playing drinking games all night! One of the guys in our group got very drunk and ended up stroking a jelly fish which was very silly but luckily he was ok and didn't get stung but he got it ripped out of him for the rest of the trip!!
The next day we drove up to see a couple more sights including a ship wreck, champagne pools and eli creek, which were all cool. The next day we went to lake wabby which was cool and also to a tea tree lake. The island is a sand island so it is all off road driving or driving on the beach! I had a go at driving for a bit on the beach and it was very fun, very different from driving my little rupert tho!!
We then headed back to mainland and went out for a meal that night with our group to say goodbye to everyone. As i said fraser island was amazing.. did see quite a few spiders tho..lukily all from a safe distance. There was this one massive big hairy one but it was dead thank god! THere are also wild dingoes on the island which were a bit scary, they didn't really want to attack humans or anything just wanted food and one night one came right into our camp and stole our rubbish bag! We had no toilet or shower facilities either so we were a bit gross when we got back, but one night when we were going to find somewhere to go to the toilet a dingo got really close to us about a metre away which was a bit scary especially when it was dark!!
Hope you like the new pics.
lots of love laura
