Hi its Lily
We finally have internet after trying to get on it for a few days so I can finally update what our 2nd day in Mumbai had install for us.
Our 2nd day started rather late as we woke up after about 14 hours of sleep. Our plan for this day was to visit 2 markets chor bazaar(thieves market) and Crawford market. The first stop was chor bazaar finding this market however, was our first challenge. From leaving the train station we started walking heading in what we thought was the right direction. Some time passed and we still did not feel that we were getting anywhere so we decided to stop and ask for directions we decided that asking in a bank would be the best bet as they were more likely to speak English. They pointed us in the right direction and with the help from a friendly elderly lady with good English we soon arrived at chor bazaar. There were no other tourists in the market and it was really packed so we briefly had a look around and got a feel for the market but deiced that we would move on.
for lunch we headed to the beach we had a cheese toasty which I didn't like because of the herdy butter that they used but it filled a hole.
Crawford market was our next stop. This market was less crowed although we still did not see any tourists we wondered around and got a feel for the market. Along the way I picked up 3 pairs of earrings and some coconut. We were just about done with the market when I man approached us and insisted that he showed us around as it was the rule of the market! Then we had a personal guided tour of the animals, fruit, spices and tea. We felt obliged to purchase some green tea as the spice seller had shown us lots of different spices in the hope we would buy some. After an hour we paid the guide (that we didn't need) and headed towards another part of the city.
Our final port of call was a place called colaba. As we approached this area the number of tourists that we had seen in our whole stay doubled in the space of half an hour. This area was very much geared towards the tourist market and we defiantly noticed the difference between the other areas that we had already visited. We were approached to be in a bollywood film as extras but had to decline as we were leaving the next day. We had our final meal here in a lovely veg rest and laura tried some weird mouth freshener that was a leaf filled with….
The following day we packed and caught a cab to the airport from our hotel around 11.30. on approach to the airport I saw the hyatt hotel and casually mentioned to laura how nice it would have been to stay there for 2 nights. At the airport everything ran smoothly and we boarded the plane. We barely noticed that the plane had not taken off on time when they captain announced that there was a slight technical fault with the plane and that they would serve lunch on the ground while they tried to sort out the problem. 2 hours passed and we were still on stand. On the flight there were about 30 people and the staff were very friendly and were handing out beer to all the passengers. During this time we must have spoken to everyone on the flight as everyone was very friendly.
It was announced that the flight was cancelled and that arrangements would be made for a new flight and accommodation. Following this we spent more time waiting around for immigration officials to sort out the visas and waiting for the hotel coach. We were told that we would be going to the hyatt and we were very shocked and confused when out coach drove passed it. Only to find that were were traveling to the Grand Hyatt. We had the most amazing meal and ate so much and then went to our stunning room with a massive bathroom and slept for 1 hour before our wake up call. A member of the cabin crew invited us for drinks with the crew however, we declined as we were very tired. People on the flight were so friendly that 2 sri lanka men on the flight called us to check that we had received the wake up call. We eventually arrived in Sri Lanka after an 18 hour ordeal!
