After a kerfuffle over our laundry and being told everything would be shrunk if we sent it there, we made an informed decision not to wash our clothes! With the weather improving and finally our first glimpse of sun, we were happy walking to the pier to meet our schooner boat but were stopped and offered a lift by a bunch of Irish louts (they seem to be everywhere in South America!) Practically sitting on their laps we made it to the port and found fat Joe, our entertainment, a hugely obese Brazilian who we nicknamed as he looked identical to the Rapper of the same name. It turned out he was an excellent singer!
We set up camp at the front of the boat after Jamie insisted they remove the cover blocking the sun from us! The boat trip consisted of 3 stops and amazing music to set the relaxed mood. As the sun shone, Emma and Jamie swam in the sea after diving from the side of the boat as Laura happily sunbathed on drier land with the others! The next stops were at beaches after passing the residence of the former Brazilian Fiat president and the LG owner (phone company). Whilst we were content with the sun, sea and sand, the Irish drank their way through the day until they were rowdy and highly annoying, emphasising the culture divide!
Laura, on a mission to avoid the sea, took a small dinghy to the beach whilst Emma swam. All united on the sand, we stood looking out at the magnificent horizon and white sands sprouting palm trees.
Returning fully chilled from the successful day, Emma and J wandered around town whilst Laura, Emily and Dan walked back to the hostel staying as far back as possible from a crazed dog who seemed to take great pleasure in attacking anybody walking towards him. Slightly perturbed by the foam being excreted from his mouth, Laura was pleased to have had her rabies injection but still prayed the dog would not turn around!
Ending the day with caprinihas - the typical Brazilian cocktail which we both hated, we hoped Ilha Grande would be as beautiful as the beaches we had already witnessed and any dogs we met there would be as loyal as the ones in Paraty who had led us to a restaurant, waited for us and then made sure we returned safely to the hostel!
