We arrived in Mexico City early this morning after three very tiring flights and an extensive tour of the Spanish airports! We have put the day to good use though and feel just about ready to collapse (after we have negotiated our way round the Metro back to our hostel!). Our plans to spend time in the Zocalo - the main square (where we are staying) - were quickly thwarted when we realised all the surrounding streets had been closed due to a manifestacion (political demonstration) which was taking place in the square - very exciting stuff but absolutely manic. so we headed west-ish to Polanco (the posh residential area) and the Chapultepec Park where we visited the Anthropolgy Museum (where outside we were accosted by a group of English students who wanted to practice - one of them was loving sal - but don't worry Marcus he was only 12ish!!! and also on that note I accidently asked a 14 year old whether he was single rather than is he travelling alone. oops.) , the Castillo which had amazing views over smog-filled Mexico City and walked round the park which had loads of entertainment stalls, crafts, food, drinks etc and was so pretty. we did however get attacked by two clowns who thought it was "hilarious" that we couldn't understand what they were saying and obv played on this for the crowd who were all laughing!!! we ran off when they tried to drag us in the circle of mexicans! all good fun though! we've been snap happy but don't have the leads on us now, so pictures are to follow. I think we're off now for a cool Mexican beer and some food - yum! Hope you're all well, and please feel free to leave us messages! love lara and sal xxxxxx
