We spent two nights in Sossus Vlei national park. This is a camp in the middle of the desert surronded by sand dunes. The best views of the dunes are at sunrise so we all dragged ourselves out of bed at 5.30 am after Simons delicious potjie curry the night before (He has got the hang of this out-door cooking very fast) to be waiting as the gates open at 6. Then its like wacky races as all the cars and coaches and overland trucks head in to find a nice dune to sit on. We stopped on the left hand side and climbed up near to the top of one of the taller dunes to watch the sunrise over the other side. There were three hot air ballons just taking off so we have some great photos of the ballons in the air with the sun behind them! We had breakfast at the bottom and headed further in the sea the rives end. The river doesn't reach the sea it just drys out leaving a cracked dry mud bed, which looks very pretty between the dunes. After a few more arty shots of the landy in the sand and once Kenan had thoroughly tired J.P out by racing him up and down another of the dunes, we headed back to the camp for a swim and afternoon nap! (The hammok came out again very nice!) More amarula coffees and marshmallows over the fire before bed.
