Goooood morning America! I have added another photo album even though I’m not sure if anyone looks at this website.
Going to a catholic school, I had a few days off for, “Tous Saints” (All Saints Day). I kept my trip sensible and stayed in France, just traveled south and close to the coast. Bordeaux is probably a three hour train ride to Spain…so; I decided to switch my coat out for a swimsuit. And one thing I learned on this trip is that going South doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be hot…The temperature was the same in Angers (50 F) but with more wind, but plenty of wine to keep me toasty!
Bordeaux is known for wine! We (Matt, Jessie and moi) went to a wine and cheese tasting, which ended up being pretty funny thanks to that “Ugly American” who obnoxiously made comments…and I’ve come to the resolution that I am done with French cheese. Why would someone want to eat something that smelled like dirty, Indian food in a diaper…I’m sorry, I just miss my Velveeta.
Anyway, we found a carnival, and couldn’t resist the Ferris wheel, haunted and fun house...and it’s not a bad idea to end every wine tasting with a fun house.
The next day, Matt departed; gay guys are more particular about a date than single girls. So, Jessie and I went to the vineyards, about an hour bus ride outside the city. And about five hours of information that I will never understand. But, the scene was pretty and the wine was great. Although, I prefer that Ugly American trying to taste wine the day before. (I’ve been pretty crude on making fun of people lately; I will leave this here in France).
On our way back to Angers, Jessie and I stopped by La Rochelle for a couple of hours; a small, charming coastal town. Since there were no lockers in the train station, we begged a café to hold our luggage while we traveled around. The blue watered bay held a large ensemble of boats, while the port held a lot of shopping. Sadly, our day was short there to catch the train.
So, that was my exciting trip. I’ve been having a lot of fun with France and the language (I love speaking it, especially after a few drinks). “Doncaaaa, doooonc-uuuuhhhh” (it’s there world for “so” or “um”, it’s great, I’ll imitate it when I get back. Although, I never understand what Madame (my French mom) is talking about. She speaks just as much English as I speak French; so, it is very hard to be on the same page. During dinner last week, she was trying to tell me something that happened in the States in French. All I could pick up was, “actor, fire, his friend.” I gave her a blank stair, which she responded to, “oui, oui! Un criminel!” But I have not found any information on the internet about an actor setting his friend on fire. Not really sure what’s going on over there.
Madame did take me to a dainty horse show a couple of weeks ago with her mother.
For five hours I watch horses jump over flowered bushes. Madame loves, loves horses, so I acted like it was a great time, and nodded with the rest of the crowd when there was a good jump. I prefer and love horse races, with little jocks, booze and betting. (I will, without a doubt, be there next summer Grandma)
Having it been two months now living in France, the only American thing I miss are my friends and family. Although I can’t wait to be a lazy American eating macaroni and cheese (my mom’s way) on my parent’s couch watching all the Project Runway I missed with Gretchen and Mr. Sir Alexander Wrinkles Worth. I think about everyone everyday, and hope you are muddling it though without my company. 46 days, 15 hours and 23 minutes! Au Revoir Mother Frenchers!
