The French
The French love their dogs, big or little, and it’s not unusual for them to let their dogs go to the bathroom on every sidewalk, curb or corner…I’ve learned to walk with concern.
And don’t think about petting their dog. These people don’t like to be social (not a smile, wink or “bonjour”) to strangers on the street.
However, they do love to “la bise”, kiss each cheek, to everyone they do know.
Since their cars are about half as small as ours, they believe they can make turns at the same speed we pace on the highway. They are not afraid to clip people who walk close and/or wallop cars while parallel parking.
Yes, the cliché is true…baguettes and fancy, stinky cheese is part of EVERY meal. They eat late and light and fill up on bread, wine and dessert and night cap it with a café au lait
A Panini is the food to-go, and the only food to-go…it’s hard enough trying to get a to-go box in this country.
Absolutely nothing is open on Sundays, (this applies in Paris too, only one the busiest cities in the world) and I mean nothing! They might as well close down the hospital.
The mother frenching service!! Servers are on salary, which means they don’t necessarily have to be prompt on their tables. They also never give a check unless asked for. I will NEVER miss this. I’m tired of eating a meal and starring at an empty water glass while the server rockets by avoiding contact.
There is no such thing as fountain drinks; they wouldn’t know what to do with the bin that we fill with ice. Ya have to purchase a 2 Euro bottle or can, this applies for water too…I don’t understand how these people never get dehydrated!!
Rolled up ham for dinner? Ham quiche? Ham pizza? Ham and cheese Panini? I forgot what turkey taste like…I don’t even know the word turkey in French! Le jambon is found on every menu as well as making its way on my plate every night.
Don’t leave the house without a scarf. And wearing tennis shoes or any attire of Northface couldn’t shout any louder that you’re an American. Actually, they just know when you’re not French, without even saying anything.
