L & L Shenanigans
We got asked that question a lot when we would mention Lubbock as one of our stops. The answer to that question is: one of the nicest families you could hope to meet in one of the cutest, and vaguely creepy neighborhoods I've even been in. We drove from Saginaw and headed west across the flat lands of west Texas. I love our dear friends and family in Texas, I don't particularly love Texas itself; our drive was flat and dry as far as the eye could see. Until we got to the outskirts of Lubbock, rising up out of the flatlands was a cute little neighborhood. It had broad porches, neat little (green) yards, gas lamps burning on the porches, and a brick townhall. It felt like we had landed in the Stepford; everything was eerily perfect. I'm exaggerating, but only slightly (check out the website for this neighborhood http://www.vintagetownship.com/). Honestly anyone would be lucky to live in such a nice area, and our gracious hostess/host (Sandra and Dan Hines) took me for a spin in their golf cart to check out the neighborhood. They have houses that can fit anyone's needs, big or small.
The Hines greeted us with a delicious taco dinner and got up early to feed us breakfast as well. We had wonderful conversations, and their home is simply lovely, and we had a comfortable bed to sleep in. Unfortunately we had to get an early start the next morning, but it was a great stop along the way. And as we headed out of town we took the time to see a few of the local historical sites, and can honestly say besides great folks, there ARE things to do and see in Lubbock.
