Hey guys.........NEW YORK
Amber here. Will keep things pretty brief as I still have to catch up writing on London and Barcelona. Will probably be the last blog entries until Rome or Canada. So New York! After all the travels and frustrations that occurred at the airports *don´t ask hehe* we arrived at our hostel at 4am. Hostel was great. Our first night there we went to a comedy night, funny, but not the funniest I´ve been to. The rest of the group cleared out, party poopers, but we stayed at the pub with Steve the Scotsman and Javi the spaniard, who we met at the bar, also tagged along (see pictures) and yes, those blue drinks somehow managed to find us again. A good night was had. During the days we went to Soho, ate bagels and walked to city. We ate A FEW bagels to say the least. but very good bagels they were. A 2 hour cruise around manhattan island was also done. (see pictures) We got told much of the history of New York and it was great to see all the sights. New Year´s eve (well the whole day) was spent, of course, at Times Square. We got there about midday and were packed in like sardines. We couldn´t get out to get anything to eat, drink, or to use the bathroom. So for 12 hours, 12 HOURS! we stood like livestock in the cold. Fortunately the weather was good. Leading up to the countdown all the performers: Lenny Kravitz, Lifehouse, Carrie Underwood, and Velvet Revolver just to name a few, were prepping for the live show.
As the clock finally neared 12, the infamous ball started dropping (though very small it was) and the energy of the crowd was amazing. Confetti rained down everywhere and the tune of Auld land Syne echoed through the streets. Lots of other classic songs were played and it was amazing. In saying that however, we would never do it again. When we got back to the hostel, we had the best and longest pees we´ve ever had in our life, got to bed and slept like babies.
We also did a pub crawl through the hostel at some point though it was a little disappointing. Why is it so hard to find good bars in NY?
Our last day in NY was spent walking through Central Park. The coldest day I´ve ever had in my life, (Tamara says me too!). The low of the day was -9 degrees celsius. So despite the beauty and breadth of the park, we were a little eager to get back inside. We became 5 years old again when we did the carousel. Very fun, and very touristy haha. We would have loved to do the ice rink and zoo as well but we were too cold.
Another all nighter for us on the last night as we had an early flight to London and the shuttle pick us up at 3.30am.
Off to London and the next blog entry.
