Hello out there! or ciao as they say here, ciao is used for hello and goodbye (I only thought it was goodbye before).
Amber here, yes I was accurate in that we didn't get to update anything till Rome. Its been crazy! 7 European cities in 2 weeks. Hate to disappoint you again but we probably won't be able to upload pics until Vancouver, in which case, we'll be home shortly after. The computers here are all in italian and I can't figure out uploading/folders etc. Anyway, our trip in a nutshell:
Neither of us thought London was that great, it was so expensive and the city itself is nothing spectactular. Fun time there and saw alot but not our favourite city by far. After that was Barcelona for 3 days, Paris for 2, Munich for 1ish, Zurich for 1, Venice for 3, Florence for 2, a half day in Pisa, and now Rome for 6 days. ...actually that was 8 cities! Has been a blur but great at the same time. Have definitely had my days where I had to think where I was but that's all part of it. We've done most of the major sites in the cities, not sure how we managed but we did. La Rambla, Sagrada Familia, ate Paella yum, and hit some bars and malls too in Barcelona. Paris, obviously the Eiffel Tower, walking tour of the city and artists quarter Montmartre. The Seine is not very pretty, kinda brown and gross. Saw Moulin Rouge and the red light district, hahahahah! Cathedrals, the Louvre, the Champs Elysees, Notre Dame, ate crepes, sat in french cafe's, and drank wine served in little jugs! Munich was awesome! Sad we only had one day and 2 nights there but we packed it in. Another walking tour of the city, so much history. Drank Augistiner! best beer in the world. Saw plenty of beer wenches, and yes they actually do still wear those costumes and carry 10 jugs of beer at once. Ate german food, hit a bar or two as well, and naturally, some shopping as well. Our day in Zurich, well half day, was spent taking in the sights of the city, eating the original Movenpick icecream, and buying chocolate...I had to hold Tamara back, just a little bit. Venice was just beautiful. A city in the middle of the ocean, nothing like it.Everything was so cute and colourful. Caught the vaparetto's everywhere (waterbus for you naive kiwis), went to Murano, the glass making region. Skipped Burano, the lace making region (no appeal to us). Unfortunately, we didn't ride a gondola :( but if you had to pay €80 ($160 NZ dollars), you wouldn't either. Ate tonnes of pasta and pizza, and all through Italy, the wine flows. You can buy it anywhere, street vendors, tobacco shops, all for dirt cheap. Florence was next. Again, another very cool european city with more mopeds than you'll ever see in your life. They will actually hit you on a pedestrian crossing if you're not watching...I wouldn't reccommend testing this. Ate gelato, saw alot of cathedrals (as you do in Europe) and took a day trip to Pisa which was stunning. The tower is not that big but definitely leaning. Spent the afternoon soaking up the sun and laying like vegetables in the park. And now Rome, just our first day here but so much to see. We saw the coloseum and walked the ruins of an ancient empire. You should definitely do this at some point before you die. Another blue, cloudless day, and actually took jackets off. Some shopping was also accomplished. We are a little tight for money by now, to say the least, but I guess we're really backpacking now. Tomorrow is the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. Can't wait. And we have the rest of the week to do the rest.
Ciao for now.If you wanna see pics, you have to wait, fingers crossed for Vancouver. Otherwise, get in touch for when we're back (9th Feb). Miss you all and can't wait to see your smiling (tanned :( ) faces again.xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
