This morning we woke up and went to a day long walking tour of Spain at 8:30am, I know we are such troopers! It started with a view from the mountains that border the city, then we went to La Sagrada Familia! The church has been inder construction for decades and wont be finished for several more, but Gaudi's designs were so amazing! The inside was made to look like trees; to me, it looked like something out of a Tim Burton movie! Imagine the trees in Nightmare Before Christmas and thats what the inside of this church looked like. I'll have to look up if Tim Burton was inspired by Gaudi because he must have been! That wasn't the last of the Gaudi architecture though, we also went to the Parc Guell and an apartment complex he built that is now used as a museum. What a creative and innovative mind he had! The gothic quarters of Barcelona were also so cool to see, because on every corner there was a marker explaining what it was/used to be, Rome should look into doing this so people know what ruins they are looking at! We met the nicest couples from Boston and Canada on our tour. After the long walking tour we had a Spanish Wine Tasting tour that we booked last minute, but boy were we glad we did! The wine tasting was a great way to wind down, and pretend to learn something about tasting and smelling wine (I wasn't very good at it). The best part though was the company. Along with my sisters were a couple from Philadelphia that just found out they were pregnant, and the wife's mom. There also were two sisters from the Maryland/DC area, one of which had a high school daughter competing in spain for feild hockey who was just starting the college admissions process. We talked with our tour group well after the wine tasting ended, then we went with the sisters from maryland to a roof top restaurant for "Barcelona's greatest" sangria! And of course we added in some croquettas! It was a beautiful day and night and I love Spain and Barcelona so much!
