Day 57 - Katoomba, Blue Mountains - Melbourne
I'm so tired…….we had the alarm set for 6:30 and so why did I have to wake up at 3:10 and not be able to doze off again! Mind you just as well we left when we did as the 90min journey took over 2 ½ hrs. Needless to say I was in severe panic mode as we crawled along the M4 back to Sydney stopping every few yards; that will sound familiar to anyone who makes the journey to London along either the M3 or M4. We were so late that we didn't dare make a detour to find a petrol station to refuel our hire car so doubtless they will rip us off big time for that. In the end we would have had time but you just never know how long check in and security is going to take even with domestic flights.
Good short flight to Melbourne although we left wonderful sunshine behind us in Sydney and then just as we are landing along comes grey cloud. It's warm here though, 27°C but overcast. It seems we are a day out wherever we go lately as the blue mountains are hot and sunny today, ah well, c'est la vie, at least we haven't got frost!
Got an upgrade at the hotel and after we had dumped the bags we went on a familiarisation walk. Found out they have a free city tram and bus for tourists, or anyone really so that will be good as we've walked an awful lot over the last couple of days. I think we could do with something like that at home. Having a nice G&T at the moment before dinner. May try the bar just down the street tomorrow, they do $5 cocktails for happy hour including one called a "Wet p**** !!! Now that sounds interesting; going to have to try that although asking for it could be interesting; I'll pass that little job to Bill I think.
Early night I think is called for and definitely going to need the ear plugs tonight as the hotel is right in the middle of the city and one street away from Chinatown, although the way I'm feeling now I could sleep standing up!
