Day 47 Auckland
Our first full day in Auckland and so much to see - Bill wanted to go to Western Springs Reserve this morning, one last chance to see some of this elusive bird life in New Zealand. To date this has been a rather unproductive search inspite of the reserve status of may of these places. This park is next to Auckland Zoo and was full with loads of families making the most of the Saturday sunshine to enjoy time around the lake. Loads of ducks, geese and black swans plus the usual gannets and gulls but nothing else sadly so we wandered off across the road towards the sea and there in a spot by a stream he spotted some red headed parrots, three of them feeding which made his day - he's easily pleased! We had to come back into the city after lunch as I had made an appointment to get my roots done - the beauty regime must go on, it's tough being blonde. Bill went off to investigate the airport bus for our journey on Tuesday and I "endured" a couple of hours of pampering. We later caught the bus to the War Memorial Museum but as it was due to close in half an hour we just walked around the outside and back to the hotel. The plan is to go back probably in the morning when we have more time to visit. If it's a really nice day though we may reconsider, don't want to be inside for hours while the sun is shining.
