Leaving the Group
To be honest, I didnt care much for saying goodbye to most people who had made me quite unhappy, but I put on a smile, and decided I would be the one who would make that extra step. I got up in the morning to say goodbye to everyone, as they were moving on to different parts of Costa Rica, and although I would have loved to see them, I told myself I would be able to do it another time. I gave most people a caring goodbye, but some did not care to even come up to me, and maybe it was for the best, I had thought for a long time if I could do some kind of talk about how I wanted to lay differences aside, but my lesson of this journey is that not all differences can be sorted, if both parties aren't willing. So I dont want to harbour bitterness, just feel sorry about it all.
A bus transport was going to come pick me up at around 1ish, and it was late. I do constantly have to remind myself that I am in Mañana culture here, not that timing and punctuality is something I am particularly fussy or well acquainted with!
It started to rain that day, so ahrd I actually thought the roof of my bungalow would just collapse on my head! The battering was so loud that I couldnt actually hear the TV regardless of how high I turned the volume up!
I got in, soaking wet from just a few seconds of exposure, and saw I wasnt the only one in the bus, much to my surprise. I met a Canadian girl called Lisa with a cheerful face and almost if not more of a chatterbox than me. I was exhausted at the time, and hadnt had any breakfast so my good humour was minimal. I yes'd and no'd and hummed my answers to Lisa, but eventually I cheered up, and we got on so well together, I was happy to finally meet someone who didnt seem to hate me. We watched a movie on her laptop, and she then came with me to my hotel, and we decided to go out for dinner with her boyfriend, a local Tico. I did worry about going out with a complete stranger, but I felt so comfortable with Lisa, I didnt worry too much.
We went to a bagel bar, and for those who know that I dont like bagels, you will have guessed already that I did not have a bagel. I seriously dont get the whole bagel obsession, theyre just dry and gross. I met her boyfriend Josue there, and he seemed like a really nice guy, and spoke surprisingly good English.
We head towards a hostel, we were looking for one for the two of them, Lisa was going to be leaving in a few days and they wanted some privacy, to put it like that. It was such a spontaneous night. We went to a jazz club where there was a live band, and Josue and I started something we should never have begun.... a drinking competition. I drink 1, you drink 2, I drink 3, you drink 4, etc. It was a deadly affair, but involved a lot of bonding. We ended up in some club dancing all around and I won with my 15th shot. Yes... 15 shots. I was bloody screwed. haha.
They then took me home, and left me on my bed. What a night!
