There is no category for "nine to fiver" under activity type. I have chosen Anne Hathaway's cottage because i spent last night helping my sister revise the poem with this name (Carol Ann Duffy) and teaching her that lots of orgasm noises have assonance.... (it was relevant i promise, and she is 16 now).
This month has been absolutely ace - except for tonight when i am writing my letter of resignation and dreading talking to my boss tomorrow. reyna and bianca have been very supportive and given me lots of advice tonight. anyway that's boring and too stressful to write about tonight.
The first ten days of this month were amazing - the weather was beautiful - we had picnics most nights at the park, or ice creams, john bought a bbq and practiced cooking on coals and everyone looked (rightly) embarassed as i grumbled and swore at young, studenty types who insist on trashing hyde park's most valuable resource - the park.
other highlights were adam coming to stay. this was ace and over the first may bank holiday weekend. the whole weekend consisted of obscene amounts of eating and drinking and the opening of Shakey Jake's in headingley (adam enjoyed this more than anything else i feel). It's a milkshake bar which makes them out of sweets or any other calorific yumminess you can imagine.
that weekend we also discovered "the common place" (that's its name i am not being rude) on the calls. i loved it! it's such a cool community centre. it sells £1 beers. you become their friend. don't bother with the organic spirits, they taste of cat piss mixed with the spirits of the dead. it's like being in a hippy's house (and i wanted it so badly at the time!) the rosie's played a beautiful gig (jon austin is a great addition to the band) and sophie was amazing as ever. then we went to bassment (sophie blagged us entry and no door tax) but we only stayed for half an hour (everyone knows i think it's rubbish). all adam could think about was greggs but sophie persuaded him that the best thing in the world is fortune cookie (the chinese). so we proceeded to buy 3 portions of spring rolls, without realising sophie wanted to go on to a party! adam and i staggered home and ate 12 spring rolls!
John and I have finally found a flat this week. It's on the street with the business school and the park. It's a largish 1st floor 1 bed flat that looks on to the park. it's taken us so long to find anywhere nice, in hyde park and in budget... adam, chico and sarah witnessed my disappointment at losing out on a flat when they came to visit and i must have seen more than 50 (probably 70 at a guess)! i think looking for the week before july 1st might be the worst time to look (this is a note to mike if you are reading it - i should imagine you would find it easier). it's john's mum's 60th birthday so this was never going to be an option.
fun times with chico and sarah were ace (sophie was on tour so she missed out). it was great to catch up. Reyna took us and Adam too to the Burley Liberal Club for a grassroots dub night. was very cool. made me feel like an awful capitalist (that was their intention) adam bought yummy cake for me and we drank fresh nettle and mint tea (and lots of beer). good night.
this weekend i went out with john's uni friends - lots are leaving town for their homes to work over the summer. the night was great fun and john was very drunk the next day. we went to wetherby to see his pregnant biggest sister and husband and john couldn't eat anything (he had already just struggled through popinas!) i hope john doesn't feel a bit left behind when his friends go tomorrow.
ken finished his degree on friday - i think i was more excited about this on friday than he was. he said he missed andy and gave me books on corruption to read (very interesting but i can be no andy replacement - o and while i'm on the subject i have to buy my own newspapers now too). ken finising seemed like a good excuse to drink lots of red wine (and accidentally tip red nail polish for my toes all over the carpet).
this weekend i am off to exeter - allegedly i am going to learn to surf... but how many times has john said this?!
the highlight of last week was on guppi's birthday - gups, sophie, john and i went to see iron and wine. THEY WERE AMAZING. go see them if they tour in your area... only problem was we thought they were the most amazing support act for the first 45 minutes of their set....! none of us realised it was iron and wine! it was at the ritz in manchester which might be a dive club but made a nice little venue.
i am doing a webdesign course at the moment - it's awful and far too difficult, i don't like it at all and i have it tomorrow after my awful day at work!
hope you have a better 24 hours than me, and your month has been as good as mine
miss you xxx
