Yesterday and today have been spent sightseeing. Hop on Hop off bus got us around. Visited the Royal Palace today - as all these European palaces it was obscenely exotic. It's always hard to understand how the people who built these places reconciled their consciences when there must have been the most awful poverty around them.
Actually haven't seen much evidence of poverty in Central Madrid - very few beggars.
The city is simply overflowing with people doing their Christmas shopping. The markets are spectacular at night with all the beautiful lights and decorations.
Did at least 2 hours extra walking this afternoon - we got lost!! Hard to believe when we had the map reader guru (not me!) leading the way. Did a lot of walking around in circles, not to mention going in completely the wrong direction! These tiny streets all look the same and although "we" thought we knew where we were, clearly we were mistaken. Suffice to say that any suggestions from the non map reader (me, of course!) were not welcomed. Anyway, finally arrived back at our hotel where I immediately ordered gin and tonics.
Enjoying the first and think we're almost ready to order the second!
Stay tuned!

Wendy Nas Oh dear, fancy being lost! At least you were together in the dilemma ! Funny just thinking about it! Gin and tonic fixes everything!! At least I hope that it did, haha! Hope that your Christmas Day is very special with wonderful memories. Thinking of you and look forward to the next chapter. X
Rose I'm sure if the first didn't the second gin and tonic would most certainly have fixed all! Funny (not) when you are both so sure you're heading in the right direction - sounds very familiar I must say! Looking forward to hearing of your arrival in Rabat xx
Ruth I'm so glad you have included me in your adventures.
